Ki is simply the Japanese word for Qi and refers to the underlying energy that flows through all living things.  These classes are to assist you learn to develop your Ki and learn to understand other people’s Ki.

The training follows basic and advanced principles that have been developed to de-mystify  Ki  and allow it to be understood in a practical and Western culture.

The instructor, Steve Dows has  25 years experience in Ki training apart from holding the rank of 5th  Dan in Aikido arts,  he is also one of few in Australia to hold other qualifications as follows;

Associate Lecturer in Ki development

And Chuden in  Ki/mind and body coordination skills

Topics covered in the Sunday classes will include;

Business application

Plus other health  related positives.

2.      Volunteers Still Needed

Hi

A big thank you to Keita Hada, Luke Vesely, Anthony Bishop, Dominique O’Brien, Ebony Sparrow, and Danny James who made the O-Week market day a big success for the club, taking our art to Griffith Uni students and signing up 42 new members.

BUT… we still need help next week, especially at Logan (we need a driver to get a couple of people down there for the day), and Nathan on the 6th as well.  Please help out if you can give the club a couple of hours.  Basically, we need five more people to give us some of their time, to ensure we can keep mat fees down in 2008.

3.     Reminder – Annual General Meeting 18th March

Hi everyone

Just a REMINDER that the Griffith Aikido AGM is on the 18th March.  Nominations for executive positions have to be in by 4th March.  If you have any interest, please consider, and ask myself or Jutta any questions you have.  Jutta will have nomination forms available at the dojo from Thursday night’s class.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the AGM J.

Steve Mitchell

Griffith Aikido Secretary

4.     Quote From Maruyama Sensei

Maruyama Sensei’s thoughts at a seminar when he was asked about the whereabouts of his dojo:

“There is no single place I call my dojo. A dojo should be held within the mind of every individual. If you put your mind to it, anywhere can be considered a place of training.

A long time ago, when the Buddha was faced with imminent death, he said to his saddened disciples that those who follow the way must not rely upon or wish to be led by others. Rather, they must rely upon the truth that exists inside them.

The character of ‘kokoro’ in Yuishinkai when read as ‘shin’, is defined as the centre or core, but it is also known as the truth (shin-ri).

I possess a dojo within my mind, and I intend to live in pursuit of the truth and its transmission. “

*Reminder: the character in the frame at the front of the dojo is ‘shin’.

*This is a fairly literal translation of Maruyama sensei's words that were in Japanese so it may have become out of context.
