1.             Volunteers Required For O-Week

Hi everyone

I put a notice in last week’s Shukan News about organizing a couple of people on a roster for a couple of hours each at 4 market days at Griffith uni during O-Week and Week 1, all of which we must attend to receive significant subsidies on dojo rent for 2008.  As you know, the more volunteers, the more fun and the less time each person is required to be available.  And you can be content in the knowledge that you are saving the club and your fellow club members a lot of money for 2008.

We had a few people offer to help in O-Week and Week 1 on Tuesday night.  Thank you.  We still need more, as you can see below.  If you can help, please offer what time you can.

We’re nearly sorted for next week.  That’s fantastic.  If you have difficulties being able to offer 2 hours, then please feel free to drop by and help out for a ½ hour, or an hour, etc.  It’s actually good fun telling strangers how fantastic aikido is!

Thank you to those who have already volunteered.  Week 1 market days are only less than a fortnight away.  Please let me know if you can be there ASAP, and what times you can slot in for:

2.      Club Annual General Meeting – Tuesday 18th March

Hi everyone

There was an announcement on Tuesday night that the Annual General Meeting for the club has been called for Tuesday 18th March.  We are an incorporated non-profit club which runs well because of a strong volunteer ethic.  This includes the executive of the club.  The current executive positions for the club are:

1.  President

2.  Vice-President

3.  Secretary

4.  Treasurer

All these positions become vacant at the AGM.  Danny is definitely stepping down from President for the much more difficult task of being a new Dad and will not be nominating.  He will remain our Head Dojo Instructor.  Jutta, our Vice-President, will be heading to Germany for a six week sojourn very soon, and Gary, our Treasurer, is willing to nominate for President.  If you are interested in any way whatsoever, the current executive members are more than happy to fill you in on the tasks and responsibilities, and there are position descriptions which have been drafted to assist in understanding the roles and the expectations which come with them.

If you are interested in any executive position, you need to nominate (see Jutta or me) by 4th March.

I’ll take on Jutta’s jobs while she’s away, but you can probably see that any assistance with our tasks really lightens the load on us, and is really appreciated and cherished.

So… if you’re not quite wanting to take on an executive position, you can help with some delegated executive tasks, but if you are wanting to help out the club in other ways, then we can definitely accommodate you too.  There are other roles for club members that help the club to run as well as it does.  For example, Sheree offered to be the clubs’ events coordinator for 2008 recently (she just organized the welcome home party for Gabby and Paul – good job Sheree J), and Shirin currently compiles and sends the Shukan News out.  There are also quite a few little tasks around the club e.g. replacing the drinks and chocolates in our fridge when they get low (this person is known as our fridge genie), that quietly get done by quite a few people.  Some of them might like a break for a little while, or to take on a different job.  Trust me, if you want to get more involved, we can find you something you’ll like.  Let me know at stevemitchell@... or phone me on 0410 260 003.

Steve Mitchell

Secretary (currently)
