1.       Maruyama Sensei Seminar 60% Sold - Pre-register

With 60% of places already sold on the upcoming Maruyama Sensei Seminar, I would encourage everyone to pre-register for the seminar as places are limited. To pre-register please go to  http://brisbaneaikido.com/maruyama2007.html

Also as previously mentioned, billet hosts are still required. If you are able to assist, could you please contact Tony Neal Sensei, ph. Tony 0411 150 640 or email anthony.neal@bigpond.com.

2.        Assistant Treasurer required for the Griffith Aikido Club

Help Wanted!

Is there a club member who has some qualifications and / or skills in financial accounting?  If so I could really use some help with the record keeping and
statement preparation side of the Treasurer's position.  Whilst I can do it (with reference to my Intro Accounting text book) it is time consuming because it is
not my main area of expertise.   I do intend to remain as Treasurer, but my business skills are in strategic planning and business development.  I am a
licensed Financial Planner and have earned a living for many years as a Business Planner / Consultant.  Assistance with financial accounting would
free me up to help build the business of the club now that we are an incorporated association.

We are developing many opportunities with schools to provide aikido instruction to primary and secondary students.  The university is also very supportive and
has recently asked us to do some cooperative marketing and provide instruction to their after-school care students.   We are also planning to offer aikido based
services to women and older people in the future.

The terms and conditions of this position are the envy of the club.  You don't get paid but you do have the pleasure of working with me.  There is no requirement
to attend committee meetings and I promise that I will do any unpleasant jobs - like asking people for money.   Please be assured that you are not walking into
a mess.  Our previous Treasurer, Sheree did a great job and I have continued her fine tradition.  All records and filing are up to date and stock take & bank
reconciliations are done.  When we incorporated, I introduced a complete financial management policy, and it is strictly adhered to.   Our financial year is
calendar year with a requirement for an external audit next January.  A chartered accounting firm has been engaged to conduct the audit.  I have
produced half year statements - Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet at 30 June 2007.  Within the next few months we intend to introduce dojo management
software and we need an experienced accounting eye to guide us.   If you can help me it would be an enormous boost to the club and very much appreciated.

My email address is
gary(AT)garyweigh.com or talk to me at class if you prefer.

Kind regards
Gary Weigh

3.    News From Eri

 Bonjour

I hope everyone is doing well. It has been nearly 2 weeks since I have set foot on the land of cheese and dog poohs. Seriously, it’s a wonderful and a beautiful country except for the fact that one cannot enjoy the scenery whilst walking as there are so many dog faeces to dodge....

Caen (pronounced "kon" with a nasally "o") is a historic town located about 2 hours north west of Paris. Although most of the town was burnt down during the war, there are still some beautiful churches and abbeys to visit. Got to see the tomb of William the Conqueror and Lady Matilda. Did you know they were cousins?

Summer is a great time to be here as the flowers are blooming and the sun doesn't set until after my bedtime. The weather is gorgeous right now, especially coming from stinking hot Tokyo.

People here are pretty friendly and once they understand that my French is painful to listen to, most seem to appreciate me speaking in English. I have learnt to mime a lot of what I want to say. Oh and did you know Simpsons speak French?

As for aikido, my last class was at the GU dojo. The French, especially in Caen, are on holidays until end of September. I have been doing the warm ups in my room and have tried rolling in the parks - except the dog faeces normally distract me.

Found out that there is no underwater hockey here...... boooo! Not sure how I will get rid of my aggression.

I think I have finally found an apartment next to the Chateau. It looks semi dodgy from the outside but the inside is ok. Still need to purchase: bed, fridge, oven, microwave, plates, sauce pan, chairs and table. The person currently living there is taking everything with him.

For those who are grading, enjoy being able to do aikido!!!

Feel free to visit my kodak gallery site. http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=9rgmbf47.b6cjwy4n&x=1&y=7h0q92

Let me know if you are ever in the neighbourhood.

Cheers

Eri
