Transition to Ezi Debit for Monthly Fees
Thank you all for your support
so far for our change over to Ezi Debit. The feedback is already
very positive. For many members it is going to solve the problem of
finding $50 or $70 cash each month. One of the most common
questions I have been asked is “Do I have to start on any particular day
of the month in May?” The answer is no, you can start on any
day of the week or month that suits you. The issue then becomes one
of paying May’s part-monthly fees up to the day that your Ezi Debit
commences. So if you want to start Ezi Debit on a monthly basis from,
say 15th May because that is your pay day, then you will need to
cover the ‘once-only’ gap from the 1st May to 14th
May. This can be done either by making a ‘one-off’
debit for the pro-rata amount or if it all sounds too hard pay the gap amount
in cash to Jutta. Similarly, if you are paid weekly on a Friday,
then you can choose to start your Ezi Debit on Friday 4th May and
from then on, choose a weekly debit each Friday until further notice (or for a
set number of weeks, no less than 6 months).
Ezi debit has enormous
flexibility. You can choose to pay monthly, fortnightly (i.e. will
be monthly rate / 2) or weekly (i.e. will be monthly rate /
4). You can also choose to pay regular debits at the
frequency of your choosing ‘until further notice’ or if you want,
you can pay a ‘one-off’ lump sum debit up front or a fixed number
of debits after which payments automatically cease. In both cases, we
have set a 6 month minimum period for these two options.
We understand that everyone has
difficulties in their life at one time or another. So if you are
having difficulty with the changeover for what ever reason, please
‘please’ speak up and say something to your instructor, to me or to
a committee member. It will remain in the strictest confidence
and we will always strive to help anyone with a genuine problem.
The last thing we want to happen is for you to leave just because you view this
as an insurmountable problem.
We value every one of our
members; without you there is no club. In the last 12-18 months
membership has almost doubled and we know that steady growth will
continue. We have such a wonderful group of people training
regularly each week and personally, I am enjoying my training more than
ever. As I said on the mat on Tuesday night we are automating
and streamlining our systems as we work to grow your club / our club into a
fantastic place to be. Thank you again for your kind consideration
and cooperation.’

New Aikikids Instructor
Congratulations to Craig Ellis, who has received certification
to become our newest instructor. Craig is from Logan Dojo but trains
regularly at Nathan, and has also been the main helper for Steve M. at our
aikikids classes on Saturdays. Our aikikids class is growing all the time
and Craig’s valuable input and commitment to the children’s class
has been part of that success and I’m very pleased to recognise his
efforts in this way. This accreditation also
enables Craig to teach aikikids classes as we continue growing this part of our
club, and I look forward to the continued development of our aikikids program.

The Cave of the Best Warrior
There was once a very strong
and very tall man who used to be a soldier. He called himself the Best Warrior.
He was in many wars and he killed a lot of people. In his little nation he was
a hero. Everyone feared him and respected him. Whatever he wanted to do he did
because no one would stop him. Wherever he went, he would say. " I am the
best warrior."
One day, the soldier was
claiming he was the best warrior when a little boy said "I don't think you
are the best warrior." The soldier was infuriated. He picked up the child
and said "you are lucky to be a child because many people have died for
less than that. If I am no the best, who do you think is the best
warrior?" The child replied, " in the middle of the jungle, in
a cave, is a man and he really is the best warrior."
The soldier went into the
jungle immediately to look for his rival. He wanted to kill him. Finally he
found the cave and he called out the challenge. "Come out and fight me and
we will see who is the best warrior." Imagine his surprise when an
old man stepped out of the cave. The old man was so weak, he could hardly
walk. The soldier laughed. "Somebody has played a trick on me.
Someone told me you are the best warrior." With very kind eyes, the
old man said, "who ever told you that spoke the truth. I am the best
warrior." "First a little boy and now an old man. I don't want
to have to kill you."
“If you did, that would
only prove you a murderer, not a warrior. I don't think you have the courage to
live alone, like me, in the jungle," said the old man.
“Hmmm" answered the soldier." I challenge you to live one whole
year in this jungle. After a year, come and see me again and let’s see
who is the best warrior."
The soldier accepted the
challenge and he lived for a whole year in the jungle. He became a great
hunter. He learned from the eagle. He learned from the jaguar. And, he learned
from the spider. After that year, he went back to see the old man. Again,
the old man challenged him to stay another year and to use all the techniques
he had learned about hunting to hunt for knowledge. "After a year of
hunting knowledge, come to see me again and let’s see who is the best
warrior."
Using the techniques of the
hunter, of the eagle, the jaguar and the, the soldier learned everything about
nature, about the stars, the animals and mathematics. He accumulated a lot of
knowledge and the more he learned the greater his ego grew. He said to himself
"there is no doubt. I am the best." When he saw the old man again,
the old man challenged him to stay another year hunting himself. The soldier
accepted the challenge.
He began hunting every emotion,
every action, ever reaction that he had. He started to see himself and to
face himself. He struggled with his belief system. He started accepting
everything and loving himself. The transformation was so amazing that in a very
short time, only three months of hunting himself, he really felt that the old
man was his master, his teacher, and truly the best warrior. He felt so much
love for the old man.
And he felt compassion for all
the people he had hurt. He could hardly wait to see the old man again, so he
went back to the cave and called out to him. But the old man did not come from
the cave. Hesitantly, the soldier stepped into the cave and all he found was an
empty body. The old man had died. Then the soldier decided he would stay in
that cave and become the Best Warrior.
He is in that cave now, waiting
for your challenge....

Gi’s For
The
club has been offered a one-off deal of some gi’s at good discount
prices, which means we are able to offer gi’s at good discount prices
too. They are the lighter summer gi. Having an extra gi will come
in handy when you least expect it. Pongy sweat-filled gi’s are
often noticed by your clubmates who are usually very nice and don’t say
anything. To avoid embarrassment, consider another gi!! JJ For details or to have a look,
please ask Jutta at training.
11. Previous news
(but good news) – worth another read!:
Hep B Alert
There was an item in ‘The Australian’
newspaper recently regarding a study published in the British Journal of Sports
Medicine, which reports the transmission of Hepatitis B via sweat amongst a group
of Turkish wrestlers. We similarly train in a full contact sport in which
participants can often sweat a lot, even if the contact with the sweat of our
training partners is not so constant and not in such close proximity.
This news may have strong ramifications for sporting organisations with a
possibility that all participants in contact sports may eventually need to be
vaccinated. I would like all members to be aware of this news, and I
encourage you to carefully consider what this means in terms of your own health
and the steps you can take yourself to minimise risk of exposure, and if you
are not sure, to seek vaccination.
