Uni O-Week starts Monday 19th February, less than one week away. If you can give us a couple of hours of your time for O-Week or Week

Unfortunately,
we have only a few volunteers at present. We need a few more. Please let me know today if you can help out. I was hoping to have 12
volunteers for 2 hour shifts (happy to have you there longer if you wish):

3. Mat Fees
Fees
are due at the beginning of each month. Without them, the club simply
can’t operate. It’s great that the
club is able to provide to its members the opportunity to train as much as
possible for a very, very reasonable fee. Everyone would appreciate
the fact that mat fees are very cheap for all the training offered and that a
club relies on its members and their financial contribution through mat fees,
to continue to offer this great service to them. Thank you to those club
members who make an effort to pay their mat fees on time or very soon
thereafter (first week of the month).
We study a martial art, and it is disrespectful
and very poor etiquette to allow your fees to become overdue to the point
someone has to chase you. That usually falls to Jutta, who doesn’t
actually like chasing fees, especially as they should simply be paid (or
arrangements made to pay them at a later date) in the first week of the
month. If your February mat fees are outstanding, please pay them as soon
as possible.

5. Club
Librarian
Eri Takahashi, our new
librarian, has asked for members to PLEASE display their appreciation for the
club’s library service, by returning any outstanding books. If you
think you may have borrowed from the library and possibly not returned an item
(forgotten, moving, exams, end-of-year and Christmas complications, etc.),
please have a really good look for the item and return it ASAP, or let Eri know
that it’s missing.

“The
Unfettered Mind: Writings of the Zen Master to the Sword Master” by
Takuan Soho
The No-mind is the same
as the Right-mind. It neither congeals nor fixes itself in one place. It is
called No-mind when mind has neither discrimination nor thoughts, but wanders
about the entire body and extends throughout the entire self.
The No-mind is placed
nowhere, yet it is not like wood or stone. Where there is no stopping place, it
is called No-mind. When it stops, there is something in the mind…
When this No-mind has
been well developed, the mind does not stop with one thing. It is like water
overflowing and exists within itself. It appears appropriately when facing a
time of need.
The mind that becomes
fixed and stops in one place does not function freely. Similarly, the wheels of
a cart go around because they are not rigidly in one place. If they were to
stick tight, they would not go around. The mind is also something that does not
function if it becomes attached to a single situation.

On Sunday 18th, I'm going to a
Traditional Chinese New Year at Ben's Restaurant where they know how to really
make a night of it; Chinese dragons, fireworks, acrobats, etc., etc. If
anyone in the club would like to come along and experience the adventure
I'm sure the added input of Aikidoists at this Asian venue could make for
a grand evening. I’d love to have other club members join
me. However, you need to let me know at training tonight or ring me on 0408
763 930.
