I'm delighted to announce Catherine Schnell Sensei, Founder of Aikido
Ryushinkan will be visiting South Bank dojo to train and teach on Thursday
June 2nd 6:30pm, she is also keen to practice with us on the Friday evenings
seniors class as well.
Catherine Sensei is visiting Brisbane for a Martial Arts hall of Fame
function, including teaching a segment at a public masters class..but more
on that from her.
Catherine Sensei, a friend and valued colleague of many Aikido Yuishinkai
seniors has a breadth and depth of experience in a range of aikido lineages
and attended the most recent Maruyama Sensei seminar as well as recently
hosting Michael Williams Sensei in Melbourne.
About Catherine Schnell Sensei
Catherine is the Head Instructor of Aikido Ryushinkan and was awarded her
black belt in 1986. In 1997 Catherine was the first Australian woman to be
inducted into the Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame for her
contribution to the martial arts industry and was awarded Aikido Instructor
of the Year, in 2003 she was appointed as a Board member of AMAHoF.
Catherine also holds a Level 1 BoxaciseTM Coaching accreditation and is a
registered provider with the Australian Academy of Boxing. Catherine has a
BA(Hon.) in the Social Sciences and further studies in Criminology, she
worked for 6 years at Deakin University, School of Studies in Disability as
an Associate Lecturer. Catherine holds a Certificate in Assessment &
Workplace Training
Catherine has specific experience working with employees in many areas of
the community services sector, education, retail and major corporate. The
workplace personal safety program developed by Catherine received a National
Violence Prevention Award in 1995.
Catherine is a full time professional instructor and has over 17 years
experience teaching personal safety and self defence programs for the
education, government, community and corporate sectors with specific
expertise relating to personal safety in the workplace, providing services
at our centre in Hawthorn greater Melbourne, and regional Victoria and
interstate. While Personal Safety Concepts programs are not based on a
martial arts type training or approach to conflict, Catherine¹s expert
teaching of physical techniques draws on her 23 years of experience
instructing and studying in the martial arts, in particular the art of
Aikido.
