Friendship Seminar Sunday Februray 20th, Palmwoods, Sunshine Coast   Message List

Dear members,
I like to invite you all to participate in a friendship seminar with
Steve Dows Sensei and David Dangerfield Sensei
on Sunday Februray 20th,
at the Aikido Institute,
Palmwoods, Sunshine Coast.

This is a rare and very practical way we can practice 'aikido without
boundaries' and significantly improve the breadth of our aikido experience
with these two long term aikido instructors.

David Sensei has generously made his dojo available for the day. Due to his
generosity the seminar is FREE for all monthly students.

Although the club has no formal association with David Sensei's Aikido
Institute a number of club members have benefited from his tuition and
personally I was fortunate enough to attend a Joe Thambu Sensei seminar
there a few years ago.

This is an excellent opportunity to experience other lineages of aikido,
gained through David Sensei's years of study with different aikido shihan
and related sister arts. I have included his biography below.

Steve Dows sensei has recently joined Griffith's Southbank dojo (relocating
from Nathan) and has a long history of experience including training in
Japan, the Aikikai and Ki Society before joining Maruyama Sensei. As my
teacher primary teacher for over 10yrs Steve Sensei demonstrates a deep
understanding of aikido and ki through an economy of movement and tight
spirals.

Nishioka Tsuneo Sensei, Headmaster of the Shinto Muso Ryu. He is one of the

art. He has been a full-time Budo Teacher for 13 years.

David sensei is a qualified trainer with 20 years hands-on experience
working with clients as diverse as Corporate entities, Police Riot squads,
intellectually / physically disabled children and adults, Olympic /
Paralympic athletes, and youth at risk. David Sensei founded the Aikido
Institute, a non-profit organisation dedicated to taking the practice and
philosophy of traditional Budo into the broader community. The Institute
celebrated itsą 13th anniversary in November at the same time David sensei
reached the milestone of 30 years in the martial arts.

The unique focus he brings to Aikido has come from his willingness to seek
out and train under several great teachers from different styles. His
primary study was at the Yoshinkan Hombu Dojo however he also trained at
Aikikai Headquarters, attended seminars under Nariyama Sensei of the Tomiki
Ryu and studied under Morihiro Saito Sensei in Iwama on several occasions.

In particular it has been his years under Nishioka Sensei that has restored
the Japanese sword to itsą central role in the Aikido he teaches
