As you can see below, Tuesday 3/10 will be the next Central Region-wide fighter practice.

We are going to try to get a group of Northern Army fighters together so that we can rideshare and caravan down to their practice to create an broader Intra-Kingdom fighter practice and do some Northern/Central fighting and training.

We realize that it's about a 1 hour and 45 minute drive down to the practice site from Lemon Road Elementary, so we would hope to be meeting-up and leaving as close to 5pm as absolutely possible, and we understand that getting back by nearly midnight or so might be a tad on the later side for alot of folks.

However, it's a rare opportunity for us to work with our Central Army comrades-in-arms -- so if there's any possibility you can make it, we hope you will endeavor to do so.

Please let me know ASAP (maxntropy@...) if you think you can or might be able to make it, so we can plan the ridesharing and caravanning.

We hope to see you there in support of the Northern Army and Atlantia!

Max Von Halstern

March 10 Company of the Bay/Central Region Fighter Practice

Tuesday March 10th, 2009 from 7-9:30 pm is the next Central Region Fighter Practice. Last time we had 18 fighters in armour, a good number of fencers and lots and lots of folks out to socialize and do A&S.

This time in addition to the fine folks from Caer Mear, TYD, Marinus, Black Diamond and Isenfir, Sir Guy and some friends from the Northern Army are suppose to come visit, and also I believe Count John might be in country from Iraq and looking to hit people. Please remember to wear non-marking shoes. Knee fighting is limited.

Directions are available at: http://caermear.atlantia.sca.org/m_schedule.html#batpark

Please forward this message as neccessary to get the word out. Thanks!

Subject: [MR] Siege Engine Problem

Greetings unto those who enjoy siege,

I find myself with a unique siege engine problem, I have to many of them!

Seriously though, I started building an Arbalest for a gentle whose mundane
life has since fallen on hard times.  Rather than making hard times harder,
I told the gentle I would fine a good and suitable home for the engine.
That engine is now complete and combat ready, well in need of a home and
some ammo but otherwise field legal.

The engine is a Docmo style Arbalest, with wheeled carriage and 2 bow
strings.  It is currently painted Atlantian Blue in hopes that it stays here
to support our army (I'd rarther not have to kill my own engine at a war),
and can pack down fairly small (for a siege engine that is) with a set of
3/4" wrenches or easily fits in a pickup bed/small trailer fully assembled.
The price was to be $450 including delivery to a local event.  Photos
available on request.

If you are possibly interested (or would consider at a lower price) please
contact me off list at Jonathas@... .

In Service,
Jonathas

War drums beat steady from afar. Soon a hearty core of our comrades will make the journey South to Gulf shore fields. Not all of us have the blood in our ears to hear those faint drums, or we hear it but find our feet to heavy from icy slog. In our ears does the war horn echo from the Pennsic War… Here, we must begin preparing ourselves for the next call.

We will send our brothers and sisters to war in the greatest way, in shedding our winter cloaks to ready this grand army for Blackstone Raids and Pennsic beyond. Join with arms midday on the 15th of March, the Ides, as we begin drilling and training for the coming Wars. A ready army is required for the defense of our borders. A well skilled army will be feared on those afar. Come. Make ready. Be ready.

The first Northern Army (of Darkness) Training Muster of the year will take place at Tyson-Pimmit Park, in the Barony of Ponte Alto, 15 March from Noon to 4pm, as is traditional in following St Paddy’s Bloodbath. This is the fair weather fighter practice site for Ponte Alto Sunday Practice (behind the Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library 7584 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church)
Take your best route to I-495. Get off at the exit for Route 7 East (Falls Church). The library is on the left about 1 mile. Park in the library lot and go down the hill to the park.

Captains bring your companies, shield grunts bring your chums, spearmen - I know you’re out there. Let’s get this war season started on the good foot.

Be seeing you,

Ld Vels inn viggladi

Good Afternoon,

While I could not secure time to go to the funeral on Monday, I'm
allowed to get off work early on Wednesday to head down to the
visitation. I'd be driving my wife's mini-van directly from work to
the visitation, and can take six riders. The schedule is as follows.

LEAVE FROM WALTER REED ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, 6900 Georgia Avenue
Northwest, Washington, DC: 3PM / 1500 hrs

PICK UP MULTIPLE PEOPLE IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS IN BETWEEN DC AND
STAFFORD: 3-5PM / 1500-1700 hrs

ARRIVE AT Covenant Funeral Home, 1310 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA
22554: 6PM / 1800 hrs

START RETURN TRIP TO DC: 2000 hrs.

Fall asleep in my office at ~10 PM.

And yes, in this rare case, I will drink caffeine. 10PM is a late
night for me. And nothing but comedies will be playing on the
radio. I've got some Jeff Foxworthy, Richard Pryor, Weird Al, Bill
Engvall and Robin Williams as well as some of Torvaldr's comedy
works. It should keep us as happy as we can be given we're visiting
a friend in such times.

If you need a ride, please e-mail me with your address and I'll see
what I can do to get you into the schedule for a pick up. If a
group of you go to one location it would help, a lot.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, Sir Saint-Sever (SCA),
Michael Plotts (MAJ US Army, USMS, LAPD, other heroic things) has
died and I'm trying to plan a carpool to the visitation on Wednesday.

Additional training musters are on schedule, and will be reported as the details are firmed up. There is a training calendar which will visible on the soon-to-be launched Northern Army Website.

Thanks for coming out gentlemen. Damned fine to make your acquiantence.

Defending the Gate is a melee event. On 23-26 April is Black Stone Raids in Aethelmearc, which is a great small war.  St. Aiden's Melee College May 9, 2009. Sapphire Joust has melees as well. Then Highland River Melees in June and then things should be almost ready to go for King's Assessments in July.

How's that for starters.  Great job today.  Remember, the only stupid question is the one not asked.

Greetings!
As the melee season begins, many of us already have Blackstone Raid on
our minds. It will be held in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc from April
23-26, 2009 at Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, West Virginia.
Last year approximately forty Atlantian fighters attended this event
and came home with stories of glory and fun. This year over forty
Atlantian fighters have already made plans to attend, and we are
hoping for even more! Please check out the event website and the
following important information on reservations and join us!
Reservations:
At the behest of HRH Prince Logan, a cabin has been set aside for
Atlantia. The cabin has forty beds total, and each bed is $7.00 per
night. Spaces will be filled in order of registrations received, so
please register early to ensure that you get a spot. For questions
regarding the Atlantian cabin, please contact Lady Kat of Ponte Alto
(dreadpiratekat@...).
Important: we must have a list of the names of each person staying in
the cabin *prior* to April 10. This is a requirement by the site, and
it has something to do with their insurance. Please mail all cabin
reservation requests, along with check or money order, to:
Blackstone Raid Reservations, PO Box 11548, Charleston, WV 25339
Please indicate on your reservation that you wish to be in the
Atlantian cabin. For general questions regarding accommodations, the
clerk for Blackstone Raid XVIII is Lady Reah Brecc
(reah_emerald@...).
In Service,
Sir William Thomas

Greetings all,

Tash has an excellent idea, it's something Wulfshaven did for Kingdom 12th Night.  We found the lack of space for gear issue as well.  There's room under the seats for a little stuff - purses and snacks was about it.  Here's something you should also consider, though.  Sighhh...
The 15 passenger vans are made for 15 Barbie dolls.  If you get 15 of our beefy, broad shouldered Atlantian fighters in the van they will look like sardines.  We were only able to get 11 individuals in the Ford 15 passenger van we rented.  Of course that was Kaloc, Graham, Heinrich, Myself, Barbara, Becky, Bernie, Rachel, Swieczka, Travis and Nathan - not a "Barbie Doll" in the lot.  So just make sure at least 1 person on each of the bench seats is skinny, for comforts sake.  That's a LONG ride wedged in that way.

  Still a fine idea, though.

So I have been looking into transport options for Gulf Wars. I
wanted to charter a bus but the expenses for a driver staying in a
hotel while Gulf Wars took place made this option too expensive.
Here is my best plan. A 15 passenger van can be rented for
$829.00/week, provided our 403B educational status is accepted.
http://www.totalcar ent.qpg.com/ 1088378.html

With estimated gas charges ($2 a gallon- 13 miles a gallon) and an
extra driver charge ($40), 15 people could make the trip for
$80/person for a round trip.

The problem is gear. We would have to rent another 12 ft. cargo van
for tents and gear. This would come out to an additional $918 once
gas and extra driver and milage fees are added in.

That puts our total around $125 round trip for 17 people. (Extra van
means 2 extra people can go.) This is assuming war gear plus barracks
style camping tents.

So the questions are-

Do we have 17 people interested at $125 each

Do we have trucks/trailers available to get the cost down to just the
passenger van ($80/person)

Please chime if interested to see if this is worth doing.

Good point, I'll have to shuffle some numbers and make the vans hold 12.  (We do have some Ken and Barbies!)

I'm definitely in for this one. And I have a pickup that can tow a
trailer, if that helps.

There will be no SCA activities of any sort at the Storvik practice site on Monday, February 9.  The church has an event that evening.

Please cross-post and spread the word.  People who can’t do without their weekly fighting fix should consider attending the Lochmere heavy and rapier practice at Talbot Springs Elementary School on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.  Please see the Lochmere web site for more info.

Your servant,

Joselin d’outremer

Bjorn,

All the various county schools, most of the private schools and assorted
other businesses and colleges snow closings are listed on a variety of
loacl radio, tv and county web sites. If you check WBAL Radio you'll
see a place to click on for all the school closings. Here's the link
   http://www.wbaltv.com/closings/index.html

And No - there were no closed schools today. Go fight!

ACtually - this is a handy guide for all of northern Atlantia. IF you
Google "school closings " and your state or area name you'll get links
to school closing lists. Or you can get up early (ugghhh) and listen to
the radio for announcements. Any group that uses a school or a
government facility for practice or meetings should find this useful.
Bright Hills uses the school closings for Baltimore County public
schools to determine if our Friday night gatherings are to be cancelled
due to snow or ice.

Thanks to the generosity of Turgeis, we will be able to provide the
Marshalling Class this Sunday (2/8) at the Ponte Alto practice
starting at 1:30pm.

If you are interested in becoming a warranted marshall, you need to
first take this class (and then do your MIT events) -- or if you
simply want to become a better fighter by better understanding the
rules of the list and more of the workings of heavy fighting in the
SCA -- then we urge you to come out and join us on Sunday.

The Indoor Ponte Alto Practice/Social is held at the Lemon Road
Elementary School (7230 Idylwood Road, Falls Church, VA). There is a
room for those interested in pursuing A&S activities, and we will be
going out for food afterwards.

We look forward to seeing folks!
