I am cross posting this from the forum, so sorry to those who have already seen
it. This is for women interested in playing this weekend. I would contact her
ASAP if I were you!:

Hello

I was wondering if any ladies might be interested in picking up with a women's
team from Ithaca going to the Montreal Jazz tournament this weekend. We're a
newly put together team for this tournament and some folks that were planning on
going have expired passports so won't be able to cross over the border. We're
fun and looking to play hard while having a great time.

Email me at chiqa [at} earthlink dot net if you're interested.

Thanks

Sue

have a bid in for Ow My Knee in Albany and am looking for women as

Subject: Here's the deal on the summer league fields
dsgrada
Send Email Send Email

If you're interested in why the summer league field situation has been
hectic, read on. We just want everyone to know that it has been force majeur
and that we are on top of it and dealing with it the best we can.

Essentially, rain has really hurt us, especially the 5-day blasts we had
earlier in the season. Not only did it force cancellation of some nights of
play, but it kept the fields so wet that when we did play on them, they got beat
up.

Then the County proactively stepped in to protect the fields by not
allowing us to play on T and W (two of our most relied upon fields) for an
indeterminate number of weeks - regardless of the weather - til they could do
some maintenance.

As a workaround, Dave Lindsay has been negotiating with the County to move
some of our fields and the softball leagues around to get enough room for
everyone. However, the word doesn't always get consistently passed around to
everyone (us, the softball teams, the scheduler, the park ranger in the pick-up
truck, etc) and so every night we have to deal with a different situation.

We are continuing to work on this with all parties. We ask that you please
be patient and realize that if you show up at your field and it's not where you
thought it would be, find your captain/league coordinator/trusted teammate to
find out what's going on and then help pass the word along.

Are the summer league shirts here yet? I'm sure you are wondering. They
are scheduled for early next week. Several factors conspired to constantly add
5 days here and 4 days there to the traditional arrival date. Some things we
have control over and will try to change for next year if we can, such as an
earlier registration close. Some things, like unanticipated size/color changes
from the manufacturer, were beyond our control.

Thanks for your (hopefully) understanding and patience.

I know I'm rushing some dates here, but I'm looking to run a BlueREY
Invitational again this summer. The BlueREY Invitational is by and
large an adult tournament where the proceeds go to help fund the
BlueREY youth club team. (Off the top of my head, some of the teams
last year were RIT, teams from the GRADA Spring BYOT league, a
Pittsford reunion team, the Buffalo club team, and BlueREY.) This
tournament will be a 5:2 gender ratio.

I'm going to pick a weekend over the next couple days -- either August
1-2 or August 8-9. So if you think you can pull a team together for
one of those weekends, let me know now and increase the odds that I
pick your weekend. :)

Also, if you are an individual who would like to play in such a
tournament, but don't believe you would be able to find a team to play
on, please do not hesitate at all to let me know! I have no problem
adding "pick-up" teams, etc.

Thanks!!!!

The BlueREY Invitational is set for August 8-9 at Center Park West in Fairport!

Some people have already contacted me expressing interest in the
tournament, so to those people, please stay in touch with me about the
status of your teams. And for everyone else, if you didn't catch it
the first time, this is an 8-team, 5:2 gender ratio tournament and
will predominantly be catering to local adult teams and players. Last
year was a fun and worth-while event for all involved, so I'm going to
need strong participation again to keep this going! This is a great
opportunity to get another playing opportunity for pre-existing BYOT
league and club teams, or to mix things up and put together a one-time
high school or college alumni team, or things of that nature. Also,
if you are an individual who would like to play in this tournament,
but don't believe you would be able to find a team to play on, please
do not hesitate at all to let me know! I have no problem putting
together pick-up teams, etc. Proceeds from the tournament will go to
benefit BlueREY, Rochester's youth club team.

I will be finalizing the details in the coming weeks, but in the mean
time, it will help me out immensely for captains/representatives from
teams to let me know where there is strong interest, and when
possible, a verbal commitment.

Thanks a ton!

Hey GRADA,

I am the coordinator for the Mixed division for the Upstate New York section this year.  This year we will be hosting sectionals in Rochester,ny on September 19th and 20th.  The Mixed Division is as high quality and competitive as any club division and is played with gender ratios guys:girls as 4:3 or 3:4 offense dictates.

I am really hoping that grada members who are looking for a fun local tournament to play will consider putting in teams for Mixed Sectionals.  The number of teams who show up to our sectionals helps to influence the number of teams from our section who get bids to regionals, and so the more teams we have come to sectionals the better representation we'll get from upstate new york are teams at northeast regionals in October.  Seeing as most of our BYOT leagues are now mixed (or at least most teams play mixed), I think this would be the perfect time to get some great fall league practice in!

I can send details about bid fees and what not to anyone who thinks they might be interested in forming a team. Please email me back at (abbey.mcgrew@...) so I can put you on the list.  There will most likely be a discounted price for teams who wish to play in sectionals, but are not playing with the intent on advancing in the club series. I really hope that some of you guys put together teams and come out and support Mixed Division Ultimate in Upstate New York.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Abbey

Subject: Fall Friday Reg is open. Plus, NEW LEAGUE - Fall Thursday COED BYOT!
dsgrada
Send Email Send Email

Fall Friday League Registration is now open. But GRADA is also announcing
the creation of a new league: Fall Thursday Coed BYOT League. This new league
will be at the same times, same fields, same format as Friday games, except it
will be a coed league on Thursday nights. Read on for info on both.

   ************

Fall Friday League Registration info follows. Deadline is August
20.

The GRADA Fall Friday League is a team-based competitive league geared toward
local intermediate and advanced level players. All players must be at least 18
years old. It will run Fridays September 11 through October 30. Game times will
generally run between 6 pm and 11 pm at Brighton Town Park on Westfall Road and
GVP Elmwood.

Registrations are by complete teams only (you get all your friends together and
come to me with one check). Individual players can contact me and I'll connect
you with teams looking for players. The league will be limited to 12 teams.
After the league fills up, I'll set the schedule. All this info will also be
available at the GRADA website, www.GRADA.org.

REGISTRATION: If you are the captain of a team that would like to register as a
complete team for a spot in Fall Friday League,

1. Contact Doug Singer directly at 704-9508 or doug "at" grada.org to let me
know. (The less surprised I am that you're thinking of registering, the better
chance you have of getting into the league);

2. Send a check for $400 payable to GRADA to 32 Constitution
Circle, Rochester 14624. (Field costs went up drastically this year.
Financially, this is still a break-even league.)

3. Email me your team name and an initial list of your
roster. You can add/delete players later and all I need is names,
not contact info.

I need #1 as soon as you decide you want to enter, and #2 and #3
by August 20 or you're not in. Spots will be filled on a first come,
first served basis, however preference will be given to returning
teams over any brand new teams.

*********

    FALL THURSDAY BYOCT LEAGUE

GRADA has decided to try to put together a new league which is the same in
every way as the Friday night league except that it will be a coed league and
will run on Thursday nights 6-10pm from September 10 through October 29. This
is in response to a request from some traditionally coed BYOT teams who are
looking for a higher level of competition than that offered by the current Fall
Sunday BYOCT league. The expectations for teams signing up for this league are
that they should be capable of playing at the level of Friday night; and, teams
should also have rosters which would support a 4/3 ratio, although a little
flexibility to 5/2 would be OK if needed.

The GRADA Fall Thursday BYOCT League is a team-based competitive
league geared toward local intermediate and advanced level coed players. All
players must be at least 18 years old. It will run Thursdays September 10
through October 29. Game times will generally run between 6 pm and 10 pm at
Brighton Town Park on Westfall Road or GVP Elmwood.

Registrations are by complete teams only (you get all your
friends together and come to me with one check). Individual players
can contact me and I'll connect you with teams looking for players.
All this info will also be available at the GRADA website, www.GRADA.org.

The fields for this league have not been reserved yet because we have to
pay for them to reserve them, and we are not sure whether there will be enough
interest to create the critical mass of at least 4 teams. If you want to play
in this league, let me know ASAP, so we can put things in motion and avoid
losing the fields.

REGISTRATION: If you are the captain of a team that would like to register as a
complete team for a spot in Fall Thursday League,

1. Contact Doug Singer directly at 704-9508 or doug "at" grada.org to let me
know;

2. Send a check for $400 payable to GRADA to 32 Constitution
Circle, Rochester 14624. (Field costs went up drastically this year.
Financially, this is a break-even league.)

3. Email me your team name and an initial list of your
roster. You can add/delete players later and all I need is names,

I need #1 and #2 immediately if you want to play in this league.

It's time to start getting ready for cooler weather and GRADA's three fall
leagues.

I'm looking for two field marshals for Fall Friday League. I'm also looking
for a Fall Sunday Draft League Director. Registration info will be out soon for
the draft league (like after I get a league director).

         ************

The Fall Sunday Fun Draft League will return in 2009 and I'm looking for
a league coordinator. This is a draft league on Sundays at Ellison Park 11:30 -
1:00 from September thru October. This person is responsible for collecting
individual player sign ups (using the online registration system that GRADA will
set up for you), creating drafted teams from the sign ups, scheduling the games,
and running the games on Sunday mornings. The stipend is $100.

         ************

Also, I'm looking to hire two Field Marshals for the Fall Friday league.
The stipend is $200 per person. If you sign on for the job by August 20, you'll
also get a $50 early signing bonus.

Whatsa Field Marshal? Generally, field marshals set up the fields, keep
score, keep time, and are the point of contact for player questions at the
games. It's a service we offer to the players as part of their league fee.

There are two marshal jobs open. Games are at Brighton Town Park on
Westfall and GVP Elmwood at Elmwood and the Genesee River. At each field, we
need a field marshal to be there for all games each night of the league.
Typically, you'll be assigned to one of the team pools, so you'll switch between
the fields each week and can be a player on a team and field marshal at the same
time. The games run from 6pm to 11pm Fridays from Sep 11 through Oct 30. You
need to be there a little early to set up, and then you stay through all the
games and pick up the equipment. You do not need to be an ultimate player to do
this job. We'll provide everything you need to know. You DO need to be a
responsible person who will make sure the job gets done every week. All the
players are counting on you.

Contact me at 704-9508 or doug "at" grada.org

If you're interested, please contact me ASAP so we can get things
rolling and start collecting teams.

I would be forever grateful even if my teams aren't! :)

Hey everyone -- I'm still looking for ideally 4+ teams for the BlueREY
tournament next weekend -- August 8th & 9th. Without additional
teams, the tournament just wouldn't be a truly worthwhile event for
the participants. If there's any teams or individuals out there that
are available to play, you'll have a great time, and also be helping
me out a lot! :) If you have any questions or would like to enter a
team, please let me know ASAP. I will have to make a final decision
about the status of this tournament by Monday.

Thanks!

~Adam

After a strong initial response, I'm still most definitely in need of
teams to participate in the BlueREY Invitational this weekend. So
far, I have commitments from:

Stealth Cannon (David Starling)
Lake Effect (TJ & Sarah Burns)
Fairport Deathsheep Alumni
BlueREY

Four teams does not a strong tournament make, so even if you're still
feeling things out, or on the fence, or anything, it would help me out
a lot just to know that.

Thanks!!!!

Hey Grada people, sign-up is now open for Sunday Fall FUN BYOT.

This league is a 4/3 co-ed league where you build and bring a team.
The level of the league is generally around an int-b level, but we
welcome any/all teams, from advanced level to rec.

Here are the details:

Gender Ratio 4:3
Starts Sept after Labor Day, goes through October
Games are on Sundays, starting at 10am
$175 a team

So, if you're interested please email me (michaelhray@..., or
fall-byoct@...) as soon as possible with:

1. The start of your roster
2. Your team name
3. Your team captain(s)
4. Your preferred color.
5. Mail a check, or bring it to one of the last summer games and hand
it off in person.

If you e-mail me, and don't hear back from me verifying your team's
bid, please send a follow up just to make sure your bid was received.

Thanks,
Mike Ray

I keep on hearing rumblings of players and teams interested, but not
much has gotten back to me. For now, I'm tentatively scheduling the
tournament as a 1-day event (this Saturday). Keeping with the one-day
format, I can reasonably add a couple more teams if any want to come
forward and have an awesome time this weekend. If I can get to 8+
total teams within a couple days, then I'll go back to a 2-day format.

Thanks, and peace out!

A couple teams coming to the tournament have asked me if I knew of any
women that were looking to play, so consider this asking the group as
a whole. If you'd be interested in playing but don't have a team,
please let me know. Your presence would be welcome by those trying to
finish out a roster!!!!

Yes, it's the next week. Bill's now in Tacoma at his MFA residency,
and Kaidan and I are still here without a car.

Is anyone gracious enough to bring us to and from the fields
tonight? We'd also love a ride tomorrow (Thursday).

We live in Brighton in 12 corners.

Thanks to anyone who says yes!!

Julie
