I've been riding about 10-15 miles a day and towards the last half of
the ride, my hands start going tingly and numb.
I bought gloves with gel cushion, but still have some problems. Is
there anything else I can do?

I'm riding my old mountain bike for the time being, while saving up
for a new hybrid :)

Thanks!

A couple questions:

Have you changed your position on the bike lately?
Where is the tingling? Thumb, fore, middle fingers? Ring finger and pinky?
All 5?

I had been riding a new roadbike for months, and once my mileage started to
go up to 20+ miles and 3 or more times a week, I started having problems
with tingling/numbness in my left hand. It was in the ring & pinky fingers.
Eventually it got so bad that I started losing flexibility and strength.
Could barely use it and also had trouble shifting.

I searched on the internet and read about something called ‘handlebar
palsy’. http://www.hughston.com/hha/a_15_3_2.htm

My frame is a bit oversized for me and the length to the handlebars was too
much. I put a shorter stem on the bike (60mm instead of 120mm) and within a
week the problem was completely reversed. Strength & flexibility returned
and tingling went away.

Not saying you have the same thing, but that was my experience and it’s
apparently a fairly common thing.

Dobo

And I forgot to add.

As you ride, take one hand off the handle and stretch it the opposite way
and move your wrist back and forth. Then repeat with the other hand.

Brigid,

I bought Dr Scholls sensitive heel cushions. They have a blue gel inside. I
bought the small size because I'm small. They're not the whole foot size,
just the back heel. I love them. I put them inside my gloves. The heel of
the cushion fits right over the heel of my hand. They fit snug inside my
glove and don't fall out. I wouldn't ride without them.

COP's GOBA site is delaying the announcement of the 2006 route until
Tuesday, due to "technical" problems with the website, they say. But
it was in the newspaper today.

How hilly is this route? This will be our second year riding with GOBA and we
liked the flat route. Heard some veterans say that it was a harder ride with
the headwinds and all, but am worried about the hills. Loved riding with GOBA
though. What a great group of people!

Sandy,
Think of it this way. If the hill is too steep, you get off the
bike and walk. After that, it is a fun ride downhill. With flat
terrain, the winds never stop so you never get a break. Hills are
EASIER, and more scenic than mile after mile of flat farmland. The
2004 route was lovely, if not hilly. But,oh, the views!

You are so right on the views! Even riding in the downpour that one day was
great!!! I'll take your word on the hills. Yeah, walking up is an option.
However, I'll just make sure that we train on some hilly terrain so we can RIDE
up the hill. I was amazed at an older gentleman this last time that was riding
a single speed bike and going up one hill, where I saw him, with little or no
effort. Then, there was an older lady that said "hi" as she breezed past us
going up another hill. That's my incentive to train, train, train. My daughter
and I are getting excited for June to come around now! We are also looking
forward to the evening entertainment. They had some good bands this year,
especially the rock band in Port Clinton, the Coco Beanos.

Had this forward from Bill Sharp, W8HI. Thought I would send it
along. Should this spread to Ohio it could put a damper on GOBA.
Let's help them out. I've already signed their petition and sent an
e-mail to the State Patrol Commander.

We need to nip this in the bud, before
it spreads to other states.

The Colorado State Patrol has added an alarming new policy banning the
biggest bicycle events in Colorado! Their new policy limits bicycle
and triathlon events to 2,500 riders, but this limit can be lowered at
any time putting every event at risk.

Since then I've logged a little over 1800 miles on my road bike...
1600 on the real roads around Logan and Champaign counties. I'd like
to chat with someone who has been on some of these rides. I'll check
back to see if there is a response
   Thanks!

Hey Dave,

I live in Piqua. We have rides from Tipp City/Troy and also a small, very
fast group that rides out of Minster. So we cover the roads in Miami,
Shelby, Clark and Champaign counties. If you want to come south, we have a
regular ride on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from March 1 through
Nov. 30. We also have a Time Trial series and two 100K challenge rides.

Check out www.fredsride.com

My bike and I will need a ride from one of the local airports to the
GOBA start and return. I am willing to pay expenses and willing to
fly into whatever airport is most convenient for the driver.

Thank you.

Maybe 15-20 miles. A few years ago when we stayed iver two days in
Xenia, one of the option rides was into Dayton on the bike path.

Thank you. I'll be coming from Cleveland and i don't know the area real well.
I'm guessing it's about a 3 1/2 drive.

This will be my first GOBA and I have a couple questions. Searching
the internet for information I have found old "How to GOBA"
documentation. Question #1; GOBA states 45 lb. limit on baggage. Is
someone weighing this bag, do I have to worry about removing an item
to get down to weight? Question #2; I also see GOBA states no lawn
chairs. I see lawn chairs in many of the pictures. I could get a fold
up chair in my duffle bag. What's the story on lawn chairs?

No one weighs the bags, but you load your own stuff on the truck and
the first riders in un-load. If it really gets too heavy, bring two
more manageable bags.

If you can fit it in your bags without breaking it, you can bring it.
Lawn chairs specifically are the old aluminum frame and webbing things
that take up lots of space, would never fit in a bag and would get
broken anyway.

The folding "Quad" chair variety fit into duffels and are very
common. I wouldn't go without one myself.

The weight limit is for your benefit. You will have to
load the bags on the truck each day.
When they say lawn chairs, they are probably referring
to the old rectangualr chairs...not the folding camp
chairs.
If you can fit it in the duffle bring it along.
