I agree that I've never seen folks locking bikes at snack/lunch stops
unless they were doing an extended museum visit, etc.
You can pack a lock in your camp-bag if you want to lock bikes
overnight but not carry it with you during the day.
I've never seen any problems at stops or in camp... as there are
LOADS of bikers around at all stops and any would-be thiefs have no
way of knowing if the owner of any bike is sitting just ten feet away.
This thread did made me laugh.... all I could think of was of some
local kid(s) that tried to hop on an expensive bike and take off ---
just to be chased down by any number of speed-devil-riders (in wildly
colored jerseys) that would like nothing better than such a
challenge!! All it would take was a yell of 'a bike is being
stolen!' and you've have people looking to grab the bike/rider and
chase riders grabbing their bikes. Most kids have no idea of the
speed or endurance of regular road riders. The look on the kids faces
as hell-demons came after them would be priceless!
