My best idea is what I do, I carry a spray can of "Halt" ( Spray Dog Repellent).
Postal carriers swear by it all times. Also go on Http://www.nashbar.com and
look for a Halt Holder it's a little piece of plastic that holds your can of
Halt on your handlebars. So you have it at all times and I know I've used it
many times on the road. Don't laugh on carrying it my cycling club uses alot of
it. It works and it's harmless.

I just started riding last summer. My husband & I have been riding
the bike paths, but would also like to enjoy country roads. We live
outside Marysville and end up having to travel quite a distance to get
to a path. We'd like to ride around our own neighborhood once in a
while.

The only problem I have with riding on the country roads are dogs.
Just traveling via car, I've noticed there are many dogs that run out
from ditches, etc.

I'm not thrilled about having a dog chase me on a bike. I did enough
of that when I was a kid deliverying papers!

Any advice you can offer on how to stop these types of dogs?
Thanks.

I suppose carrying a paintball gun would be going a bit too far.

But seriously, they pose a real threat to your safety. Even if they
just want to play, they can get under a wheel and cause a nasty
accident. Unfortunately, the dog owners don't seem to understand this.
