Well folks, I grew up on a farm and used to ride my
bicycle everywhere. I have been chased by LOTS of
dogs.
Taking pepper spray could be a bad idea in my opinion.
The wind could blow some of the spray back in your
face. Or, you could get some spray on your gloves and
inadvertantly wipe your forehead, sweat runs into your
eyes, etc. I just wouldn't do it myself.
The best way I've found to handle a dog is to simply
get off your bike and walk - the dogs don't know what
to do. If you walk a couple of hundred feet or so,
they wander off.
I tried hitting dogs with frame pumps and one dog
remembered me hitting it 3-4 times. He eventually bit
me so I don't think that is a good idea. Spraying
them with water from your bottle sometimes spooks them
- but - you need to have enough water to be able to do
that.
Also, FYI, I have hit a German Shepherd at about 20
MPH already. Good luck. Jim
