Hi all,
Decided to join in with this GOBA group to pass along some
information from the GOBA communications staff and get to know some of
you a little better.
Communications support for GOBA is provided by amateur (ham)
radio operators. Many ops are GOBA staff/riders. A large amount of
support comes from hams in the communities through which we ride. We
have hams in our squads and most SAG wagons. This type of
communication usually works even when there is no cell phone coverage.
Anyone interested in GOBA radio operations may go to the GOBAhams
website at: http://www.gobahams.org
Any hams who are not a part of the GOBAhams e-mail list may
subscribe at the website or contact me by e-mail.
We are planning a testing session on Sat, June 19 at 3 PM at the
Medina Fairgrounds for anyone who would like to test for a ham radio
license. Information on how to get licensed and test sites other than
Medina can be found on our website.
There has been some discussion in the other group about using GPS
on GOBA. Crank, the moderator of that group has created a tentative
set of waypoint files in both gpx and loc format that can be uploaded
to newer GPSs. His present set of files and the EasyGPS program that
can be used to upload the files can also be found at gobahams.org.
Looking forward to seeing all the great GOBA riders in June.
