Hey there Bikinbabe2001,
I have a RANS recumbent. Not the most well-known
"bent" but a decent one none-the-less. I rode quite a
few different recumbents before I decided on which to
get. Frankly, I couldn't find a lot of difference
between the different well-known brands.
A few things to think about: You will have to decide
if you want the normal handlebar arrangement or under
the seat steering. You also have to decide if you
want a touring or a quasi-racing bent.
Also, bents take a LOT of space to transport. I
have a pick-up with a normal length bed and my bent
barely fits in it. The front sprocket sticks out too
- there isn't a guard up there - and it is sharp. Not
something you can have little kids playing around.
If you don't have a large pick-up to transport your
new bent, you might consider a BIKE FRIDAY. I also
have a BIKE FRIDAY Pocket Rocket and it's far and away
my favorite bike. BIKE FRIDAY makes a bent called the
SatRDay. Their bike website is at
http://www.bikefriday.com/catalog99.cfm
A new and interesting variation on a recumbent is a
bike GIANT is selling. Take a look at the GIANT
website at
http://www.giantbicycles.com/us/030.000.000/030.000.000.asp?bikesection=8836&lYe\
ar=2004
and look at the REVIVE. I've ridden one and it
wasn't what I was looking for. But it IS comfortable.
If you are in Northwest Ohio and want to take my
RANS for a spin, let me know. Jim
