As a 14-year GOBA veteran, I remember "good old days" when there were
only 1500 riders we only had to use 2 trucks! Ah, how times change,
eh? In 1989 I arrived in Wilmington to find my bag in six inches of
water from the recent storm. In 1990 I had everything packed in
plastic bags. Gee, the things one learns after one short lesson!!
After the storm in New Philly (forgot which year) I learned how to
stake my rain fly down better. (Yes, lots of water in the tent).
It is VERY hard unloading trucks - I've helped with it in the past.
My motto has become, if you can't afford to lose it (or have it
broken), don't pack it. It's really no one's fault - it just
happens. Luggage loading and unloading is a rough business - I
always admire the people who do it - but I'm never there early enough
to thank them.
My husband and I missed our first and only GOBA this year - his
mother was hospitalized. Hope y'all had a great time. Anyone going
on XOBA in 2 weeks? Maybe we'll see you there! Look for the
Cannondales with the black aero discs on them.
