New York Adventure Racing Association

The Longest Day & Night

26-Hour Adventure Race

June 6 & 7, 2009

NYARA is mixing things up for 2009 and changing the duration of its 2 marquee adventure races.  The Longest Day (06/06/09) will now add a night portion to make it a 26-hour event and The Shag (9/26/09) will take the 12-hour slot.

For the Longest Day & Night, teams will once again paddle, bike and navigate their way through the Catskills in New York State.

As is becoming tradition for NYARA, the exact venue and locations will be kept secret until just prior to the race.  Once again, you will be treated to some new terrain at this year˘s Longest Day & Night.  The course will reward and delight racers of all ability levels from novice to experienced teams with fantastic terrain and spectacular views. Course design will feature a modified rogaine format which will allow teams to collect optional CPs at their discretion. The team with the most points at the end of the 26-hour race will be crowned TLD&N champions.

2009's Longest Day and Night race is a USARA National Qualifier.  The top 3 co-ed teams will be eligible to compete in the USARA National Championship Race.
Race Course Highlights:
·         No Friday evening check-in
·         Rogaine/score-O style course (equally challenging to novice and top navigators)
·         Pre-plotted maps
·         Great single-track mountain
biking
·         Fun river paddle
·         Scenic and challenging hiking terrain
·
Potential climbing/ropes section (this section will not require any special skills or certification)
Please stay tuned to www.nyara.org for more information and the complete 2009 calendar.
