NOTES FROM THE FIELD:

from Ronny Angell, Race Director:

This race will be an epic journey to test your mental and physical
abilities, but with proper training and mental toughness, this FUN but
challenging race will be doable.

Joy Marr, the co founder of Odyssey and long time course designer, has
laid out a fantastic race course. The E Fix will truly be "The Best of
West Virginia". When looking at the course on paper I thought WOW that
is going to be fun; that is going to be tough; that is going to be
"SWEET" and OOHH that is going to be beautiful. On the sections I have
seen and been on in person, I was right. I look forward to pre-running
the whole course. You will be in for a treat!

For those of you who have raced with Odyssey before, you know what an
Odyssey Adventure can be like -we don't aim to disappoint. Good Luck
with your training and let us know if there is anything we can help
you in your preparations. - Ronny

from Joy Marr, Course Designer & Director:

As we finalize the details of yet another epic EFIX, we thought we
should give you a few items to ponder and prepare for, while answering
some questions.

Yes, the EFIX will have substantial elevation gain - over 29,000 ft.
of (but those of you who have been here before are used to that). Yes,
the EFIX will have multiple water segments, three this race. Yes, you
will need wetsuits (well, I would wear one). Yes, you should bring
multiple sets of brakes for your bikes and Yes, this routing may be
the toughest most rewarding course yet!

Out in the field we have discovered some great new areas for your
enjoyment. This is a long course (it is over 200 miles long) and as
such will need your complete focus. After doing some initial recon
trips, it has come to light that those teams who are well organized
could have an edge, as time in the TA's could make or break some
teams, making their support team crucial (great training for PQ).

Because you will spend a good bit of time on the water, quality
boating skills will really make a difference (on one segment you will
be on the second largest water feature in the state), allowing you and
your teammates opportunities to rest, eat and hydrate while still
being able to make good time. Navigating at night is going to be a
coveted skill- those who are strong navigators (but maybe not the
fastest movers) will enjoy this course. And the biking - we said we
were bringing the best of WV, you will have some great bike legs -
some of them with substantial down hills (yes, I repeat, down-hills)
and of course lots of wild WV scenery!

From the looks of the timeline we will have one rope segment - a
rappel- so be sure to check the gear list (and all the disciplines)
online for updates.

Plan for a quality experience, a challenging experience and an Odyssey
experience- all the way!

Looking forward to seeing you all soon,
Joy
