I have put together a nice 6 hour course with biking, canoeing,
orienteering, and hiking as a fun training day for people experienced
or wanting to try adventure racing. This is scheduled for October
14th in the Hardwick area. (A little less than an hour and a half
from Burlington.) Some people have responded and said they would
like to participate, but I need a couple more to make this
worthwhile. I have the course set, the volunteers ready, and a
postrace meal lined up. Now I just need the racers. The intent was
to get new people paired up with some experienced people, although
anything goes. I have some new people who are experienced racers in
other sports, but some of them need an experienced AR racer to pair
up with them. If you have been thinking of coming up for this,
please contact me for more info by Friday Oct 6, Noon. Otherwise, I
may choose to postpone this event until next spring or summer.
Here is the original description...
October 14th, 2006 Adventure Race Training Day in the Hardwick,
Vermont area. I will set up a 6-8 hour course for teams of 2 or 3,
preferably coed. The course will include trekking, biking on and off
road, canoeing, and of course orienteering. Teams will need to
provide their own canoe and bikes. If teams have a kayak or two, I
can set up a kayaking option. I will try to find a couple of extra
canoes for people that don't have one. If you have an extra canoe
others may use, let me know.
The intent of this training race is to pair newcomers with people who
have done races before, although this is not required. Let's just
get together and have some fun. We will start by 10:00 am. Plan to
be here in Hardwick at 8:00 (1 ½ hours from downtown Burlington). A
meal will be provided after the race. I would ask that teams
contribute $30 per person (this is flexible... talk to me)to cover
some expenses here. The race and
meal will be based at and around Hazen Union School in Hardwick, Vt.
I will have students from the high school Outing Club out on the
course as volunteers. Any extra money you might feel you could
contribute would go to them and be much appreciated.
This is only a training day. You are taking responsibility for
yourself (although we will go look for you if you don't come back.)
I have gotten permission to use all of the land the course will
cover, but you must be willing to provide your own health insurance
if anything goes wrong.
I may need to limit the number of people participating in this
training day. If you are interested in participating, please email
marc_considine@... to reserve a space and I will send you
more information.
