Fellow Racers,
The Ultimate 36 Hour Race is scheduled to take place in just under a month away. As with the Beast of the East, preliminary registration has been a bit slow, yet many teams have inquired and made verbal or written notice of their intentions of racing. That is awesome but intentions cannot put together a race. For some reason it seems like last minute registration is the mode for adventure racers (I am certainly not excused from this list). BUT this makes for a very difficult situation for us race directors who are trying to bring quality events to the adventure racing community. I know it can be tough to get a team of 2 or 3 fellow racers together to commit to race but it is equally if not more difficult to put together events of this magnitude. The details and steps that are needed to do it are enormous. OK enough of this off of my soapbox. My point....if we do not get enough of numbers to register for the Ultimate 36 hour race by this Friday 15th, we will be forced to cancel the race. There was a plea after the Beast was canceled to call or write to urge the race directors to rethink because enough of people had intended on signing up. Well, here is a 5 day notice that the Ultimate 36 hour race will be canceled on Saturday if those teams with good intentions do not step forward and register. If only a small fraction of the teams who expressed interest in participating in this race sign up we will definitely be producing this great race. The course is awesome. We just need those to commit.
I hope to be seeing you in the Adirondacks and on our course on Columbus Day Weekend.
Race On,
Marty
