The Canadian Adventure Racing Association invites you to 'Come and
Conquer the Canadian Wilderness', in historic Timmins, Ontario Canada
from May 28th, 2006 to June 3rd, 2006, and compete for up to $70,000
in guaranteed cash prizes.
The National Adventure Racing Championships will be the first major
international expedition adventure race of the 2006 season. It is an
exciting new 4-5 day expedition-length stage format that includes
three race stages covering over 400km, with the first stage being a
sprint championship event that is part of the Expedition race.
In total there will be three stages in the race that include mountain
biking, trekking, paddling, ropes and navigation. And we're also
still working on a few very cool possibilities for some underground
activities, and a discipline never-before seen in an adventure race!
The Expedition race is for coed teams of four, and teams can provide
their own support or race organizers will supply `soft' support for
them. The race is open to teams from Canada, the U.S. and around the
World.
As a special incentive, teams who register before January 30, 2006
will receive a special bonus - a $300 credit toward car rentals,
hotels and meals in Timmins, as well as another $100 in goodies!
Whether you are a highly competitive racer, or a team that is looking
for a great racing and travel experience? Whether you're considering
where to race for your first race or only race of the year, then this
is an event that you will want to attend!
The race will take place in and around Timmins in Northern Ontario,
an area that is synonymous with 'adventure travel' in Canada. It was
first explored by fur traders who traveled by canoe and foot through
its vast array of over 500 lakes, rivers and waterways; the earliest
outposts in the area where established by the Hudson Bay Company; and
in the late 1800's and early 1900's it was the gold rush that brought
more adventurers to the area. Today, the Timmins area is the largest
precious metal producing area in the western hemisphere and its
forests and water provide pulp, paper and power to much of eastern
Canada and the USA, but even with all this, it is the wilderness that
remains the jewel of this historic area.
Racers can expect to visit and travel through many of the
historically significant parts of the Timmins area, and enjoy the
beauty of the terrain and wildlife. Bob Miller, the race course
designer, has competed in just about every major adventure race
around the world, and he knows what racers want and will enjoy. He is
creating a 'racer's race', that will be both challenging and
memorable. And the people of Timmins are looking forward to welcoming
and supporting racers to the "city with a heart of gold".
We hope that you will take the time to visit the National Adventure
Racing Championships website (www.canadianarachampionship.com) where
you will find all of the information about the race; and we look
forward to seeing you in Timmins, Ontario Canada next spring.
