Coincidentally, my Grand-Son was born on Gil's Birthday last year.

Two days from now I will be attending my Grand-Son's Birthday Party, where he
will be taking his Walking Test.

It's a tradition I started with the First (of Five) Grand-Children that I
started Nine years ago.

The Walking Test is, I pay ONE DOLLAR for every consecutive Step taken by the
Child on the First Birthday without falling. It costed me 56 Dollars two years
ago.

It would be nice if Gil gets selected in 2005, which would be on the 50th
Anniversary of the 1955 World Series Win.

It's something to look forward too.

It's to bad we can't get a list of the vets and how they voted. The idea would
be to bombard those vets who didn't vote for Gil inspite of his record
(considering how many full seasons he played),his reputation, and what he did
for the Mets in 1969. I agree with you; can you imagine how the 57th player on
the homerun list isn't in the hall? Makes no sense to me.There are also some
vets who are sympathetic to are cause (Snider, Seaver) who if tapped, might be
able to swing a couple of "swing" voter. Lets keep up the fight and get this
great man into the Hall of Fame where he belongs!

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DO NOT KNOW THE VET COMMITTEE ALWAYS KEPT THEIR
VOTES SECRET EVEN WHEN ONLY 15 MEMBERS HEADED BY TED WILLIAMS.
CURRENTLY 87 GET TO VOTE BUT EARL WEAVER IS ANTI GIL AND REGGIE
JACKSON AND MIKE SCHMIDT VOTE FOR NO ONE FEELING IF THEY COULD NOT
GET IN REGULAR WAY THEY DO NOT DESERVE VET ENTRANCE. LIST OF VET
COMMITTEE IS AT HALL SITE AND ALSO ON MY FILES LIST. PEOPLE LIKE
SNIDER-YOGI-SEAVER-FORD-MURPHY-SCULLY ARE PRO GIL BUT WE NEED THEM TO
SPREAD WORD TO 65 OTHERS -75% NEEDED TO GET IN. SINCE MOST OF THESE
GUYS NEVER SEE EACH OTHER THE SYSTEM IS REALLY SET UP SO NO ONE GETS
IN AND THE HALL LIKES IT THAT WAY RE VET COMMITTEE. SO IF YOU SEE
HALL PLAYERS AT CARD SHOWS ETC. GIVE THEM SOME INFO ON OUR HERO-GIL
BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. HALL WILL NOT FOREWARD MAIL TO PLAYERS WHEN
VOTING IS NEAR--THEY MAY FOREWARD NOW SO GIVE IT A CHANCE.

Hodges Wallops Four Homers

1955 Topps baseball card featuring Gil Hodges

Gil Hodges would hit 32 home runs in 1950, four of them coming in
one record-setting game.

On the night of August 31, 1950, the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the
visiting Boston Braves by the lopsided score of 19-3. Leading the
Bums' attack was the 26-year-old Hodges, the team's strapping first
baseman, who blasted out four round-trippers and a single in six at-
bats. He drove in nine of the team's runs, and tied a major-league
mark with 17 total bases in a single game.

Hodges became only the sixth player to belt four homers in a single
big league game, joining Bobby Lowe (1894 - Boston, NL), Ed
Delahanty (1896 - Philadelphia, NL), Lou Gehrig (1932 - New York,
AL), Chuck Klein (1936 - Philadelphia, NL) and Pat Seerey (1948 -
Chicago, AL).

Hodges' victims were starting pitcher Warren Spahn in the second
inning, Norm Roy in the third, Bob Hall in the sixth, and Johnny
Antonelli in the eighth.

What did Hodges think the overnight fame would bring? "I hope it
brings us a place to live," he said, referring to himself, his wife,
a six-month-old son, and a baby on the way. "We've tried everything
to get a decent home to rent," said Joan Hodges, Gil's wife. "We're
living here with my folks (in Brooklyn), and there just isn't enough
room. We've advertised, but didn't have any luck. Maybe, now,
something will happen."

Something did happen, the very next day, after the Hodges' housing
plight appeared in the newspaper. That afternoon the switchboard at
the Dodgers' office lit up with offers from people from all over New
York City, one caller saying, "Tell him to get in touch with me. And
tell him not to hurry about the rent. For a guy like that there
won't be any." Hodges would pay, though, when a few days later he
bought a house in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, within walking
distance of the site of his greatest day at the plate.

Veterans Committee Ballot Finalized as Screening Committee Completes
Selections
Twenty-five former major league players comprise the 2005 Hall of
Fame Veterans Committee ballot, on which Veterans Committee members
will cast their votes in January. Results of the election will be
announced on March 2, 2005. The final ballot, to be voted upon by
all Hall of Fame members, as well as the Ford C. Frick and J.G.
Taylor Spink Award winners:

Dick Allen, Bobby Bonds, Ken Boyer, Rocky Colavito, Wes Ferrell,
Curt Flood, Joe Gordon, Gil Hodges, Elston Howard, Jim Kaat, Mickey
Lolich, Sparky Lyle, Marty Marion, Roger Maris, Carl Mays, Minnie
Minoso, Thurman Munson, Don Newcombe, Tony Oliva, Vada Pinson, Ron
Santo, Luis Tiant, Joe Torre, Maury Wills, Smoky Joe Wood

Brief biographies for all ballot candidates are available at
baseballhallofame.org, the on-line home of the National Baseball
Hall of Fame and Museum.

The final candidates were selected by a BBWAA-appointed screening
committee of 60 BBWAA members, two writers from each of the 22 major
league cities with one team, and four writers from Chicago, New
York, Los Angeles and the Bay Area, each of which has two major
league teams. Each writer was asked to select 25 individuals from a
list of 200 players.

Simultaneously, a six-member screening committee of Hall of Fame
members independently selected five players, each of whom were
already selected by the writers. The top 25 players, based on vote
totals, comprise the final ballot.

The entire Veterans Committee process will be repeated again for
eligible players prior to the next election, which will be held in
2007. Managers, umpires and executives will next have their
candidacy reviewed again in 2007, once every four years under the
new Veterans Committee format, while players are reviewed once every
two years.

The Veterans Committee electorate (currently at 85 members), is
comprised of the living Hall of Fame members (60), Ford C. Frick
Award recipients (14), J.G. Taylor Spink Award recipients (10) and
former Veterans Committee members whose terms have not yet expired
(1).

FAN SUPPORT: Fans wishing to voice their opinion in support of their
favorite candidates may do so in two ways: by sending a single
letter to:

Hall of Fame Veterans Committee
Post Office Box 590
Cooperstown, NY 13326

Or by logging on to baseballhalloffame.org and sending an e-mail.
The Hall of Fame does not forward petitions to the voting members,
but makes all correspondence known to any interested voting members,
as well as to the Screening Committee members and Historical
Overview Committee members.

Last time around, if you recall, he had the most votes of any player
even though his 60% (I believe) was still not enough. I worry about
the gaining support that Ron Santo has been getting due, in large
part, to the unfortunate loss of his legs.

Dear Friend:Thank you for taking the time to express your views about the
VeteransCommittee voting to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Gil
Hodges is on the final ist of eligible candidates as voted upon by ascreening
committee of 60 writers. He is one of 25 finalists and theresults will be
announced on March 2, at 2 pm at our Web site,www.baseballhalloffame.org. The
full Veterans Committee electoratewill cast their votes on the final list of
candidates inJanuary/February 2005. Please remember that it is extremely
difficultto earn election; only 1 percent of those to have worn a major
leagueuniform -- one in 100 -- have a plaque in Cooperstown. While Mr. Hodges is
not currently a member of the Hall of Fame, he isrepresented in the Museum and
Library as an important figure in baseballhistory. The Museum has in its
collection his New York Mets jersey, thebat and ball from his 13th grand slam
(1957), his Players PopularityAward from 1957, a cartoon, an oil painting,
and extensive photo andnewsclip files.Mr. Hodges first became eligible for
induction into the NationalBaseball Hall of Fame in 1969 . According to the
Rules of Election,Mr.Hodges was eligible for consideration by the BBWAA for 15
years.During that span of time, Mr.Hodges garnered a considerable number

at Ebbets Field and see GilHodges play, in addition to seeing him come home to
the Mets as a playerand then a World Champion manager. When Mr.Hodges retired,
he was thegreatest right-handed power hitter in the history of the National
Leagueas well as the NL leader in grand-slams,hitting 4 home runs in
agame(hardly done back then)and being a terrific defensive player.
Hisstatistics pale to what is happening today, but he was a consistent 100per
season RBI man and team leader. He meets the Hall's definition ofbeing a
dominant player at his position for a substantial period oftime. There were
other first basemen that might have had betterindividual seasons during this
period (e.g.Kluesewski,Adcock) but noneof these men were the consistent, overall
playeer that Gil was. Hecertainly deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

bklynbum14

FOR SECOND TIME IN TWO ELECTIONS THE VET COMMITTEE VOTED IN NO ONE--
NOT SURPRISING AS SPORTS WRITERS HAVE POINTED OUT THAT THIS NEW
FORMAT THE DREAMCHILD OF JOE MORGAN THRU JANE FORBES CLARK WAS REALLY
MEANT TO MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR ONE TO GET IN IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
MANY HAVE COMPLAINED THIS YEAR INCLUDING TONY OLIVA AND DAVE ANDERSON
OF THE NY TIMES. THEY MAY BE RIGHT BUT COOPERSTOWN AND JANE FORBES
CLARK RULES. STATS SHOW THAT TO DATE VETS VOTED IN 149 T0 101 FOR
BWAA. NOW VET COMMITTEE IS EVERY TWO YEARS AND MANAGERS ETC. EVERY
FOUR--MAYBE WE SHOULD GET GIL ON MANAGERS GROUP TOO.
GIL AND SANTO BOTH GOT 65% OR 8 VOTES SHY OF 75%--ALL 83 DID NOT VOTE-
-3 HELD BACK--PROBABLY--REGGIE JACKSON--MIKE SCHMIDT AND ?---MAYBE
JUST REMOVE THEM.
NEXT ELECTION FOR US 2007----POOR JOAN HODGES---THANK GOD BROOKLYN
AND TRI-STATE AREA CONTINUE TO PRAISE GIL---AND THIS IS 50 ANNIV. OF
BROOKLY DODGERS 1955 "THIS IS NEXT YEAR"----I AM SURE SHE WILL BE
INCLUDED IN FESTIVITIES IN LA-AUG 28 AND BROOKLYN OCT-2-3-4 BUT THESE
MEMORIES KEEP DEEPENING HER WOUNDS SO SEND SOME LETTERS TO HER AT
BEDFORD AVE IN BROOKLYN AND LET HER KNOW WE ARE WITH HER---I AM SURE
GIL HAS A GOOD LAUGH ABOUT ALL THIS WITH CASEY UP IN HEAVEN WHERE HE
IS DEFINITELY IN THAT HALL--THE ONE THAT REALLY COUNTS.

bklynbum14

THE VET COMMITTEE AGAIN DISAPPOINTED US. THE LA DODGERS ARE
CELEBRATING THE 1955 BROOKLYN DODGERS 50TH WORLD SERIES ANNIV. IN LA
AGAINST HOUSTON ON AUGUST 28, 2005. IT WOULD BE FITTING IF JOAN
HODGES WERE PRESENT AND LA SHOWED SOME CLASS AND SHOWED AN EXAMPLE TO
VET COMMITTEE AND RETIRED OUR HERO'S #14. PLEASE PASS THE WORD AROUND
AND WRITE TO CHAIRMAN FRANK MCCOURT C/O LA DODGERS 1000 ELYSIAN AVE
LOS ANGELES CA 90012.
ALSO WRITE TOMMY LASORDA AS HE IS EXEC VP WITH LA.

LET'S GO ALL OUT --THOSE IN THE AREA GET TICKETS FOR THIS GAME AND
SHOW WE REMEMBER GIL A TRUE HALL OF FAMER---MAYBE WE CANNOT MEET IN
COOPERSTOWN JULY-31 BUT MAYBE SOME OF US CAN MEET IN LA IF THE
DODGERS SUPPORT GIL.
