The 64 living voters could not elect anyone for the 4th time even
though ballot was reduced to 10 from 20-25. The "older" vet committee
with only 12 voters (a new committee) and similar to the TEDDY BALL
DAYS (Ted Williams)when I believe there were 12 members voted in
Yankee Joe Gordon. The Hall does what they want--maybe we can get Gil
in under the special BUCK O'NEIL Humanitarian Award.
For what it is worth Santo got 39 votes(61%) then Kaat 38, Oliva 33
and Gil 28-43%. One needs 48 votes---Gil and Santo had been as close
as 7-8 votes. Apparently only players in Gil's era voted for him as I
reviewed all 64 listed and only about 28 are like lasorda-koufax-
berra-snider etc.
So the more current 36 crop either ignore him or simply cannot read
about "the Quiet Man" and his qualities at bat and as a fielder.
We should send them all a book -Praying for Gil Hodges--but then
again maybe they cannot read or maybe Jane Forbes Clark calls the
shots. If they continue to not vote anyone in--why even have the
committee?
Set up another committee of 12 voters like the one who elected Joe
Gordon---how did this evolve anyway & why only 12 voters?
