I ventured into Brooklyn some 50 miles from my house on July 23-SAT
afternoon--for a 6pm Brooklyn Cyclones game. I failed to make the
Cyclones game the previous Monday as my car broke down on the BELT
and had to be towed 50 miles back to Connecticut. All went well this
Saturday--the Belt was slow as usual and Coney Island was packed as
was Keyspan Park-but we made it in about 2 hours just in time to
hear our beloved Bums introduced-Erskine(17) Labine(41) Roebuck(37)
and Shotgun Shuba(8)plus Joan Hodges(14). It was chilling especially
when OISK played the national antheum on his harmonica. During the
game all four players signed autographs for free but the lines were
into the ocean. Erskine was promoting his new book-"OISK". The
Brooklyn fans my age really showed up with an array of Brooklyn
shirts and 50th anniv. memories. Yes, I had a Nathan's hotdog and
Brooklyn brewery beer. It wasn't Ebbets Field but it was fun. Too
bad the others--NEWK, Snider<Craig< Koufax, Zimmer, Podres,Loes---
did not show but on Aug 28 LA honors them and on OCT 4 a gala in
Brooklyn is being planned.
Also another new book-Brooklyn Remembered--with interviews with the
11 living BUMS and Joan and MRS. Robinson is out authored by Maury
Allen. Remember HAPPINESS IS GOOD HEALTH AND A BAD MEMORY
BE WELL
