THE BASEBALL HALL OF SHAME STATES THAT WHILE THEY WILL
SERVE AS A DEPOSITORY OF SUPPORT INFORMATION GATHERED
FOR POTENTIAL INDUCTEES,THEY WILL NOT ADVISE THE
DECISION MAKERS (VETERANS'COMMITTEE - ALMOST MAKES ME
WANT TO GAG) OF SAME SUPPORT INFORMATION UNLESS
SPECIFICALLY ASKED BY A MEMBER OF THAT COMMITTEE. EVEN
AT THAT,IT IS ONLY THE ASKING MEMBER THAT WILL RECEIVE
THE INFORMATION.
WOULDN'T IT BE NICE IF THE RESULTS OF ANY SUPPORT
EFFORT WERE MADE PUBLIC 2-3 WEEKS BEFORE THE VOTES ARE
DUE SO THAT THE ENTIRE COMMITTEE WOULD HAVE AN IDEA OF
WHAT THE FANS (PEOPLE WHO PAID HARD EARNED MONEY TO
SEE THE BALLGAMES THAT THESE PLAYERS PLAYED
IN)THOUGHT.
THE COUNTER ARGUMENT IS THAT IT SEEMS TO REDUCE THE
VOTE TO A POPULARITY CONTEST - NOT IF THE NUMBERS &
OTHER HALL REQUIREMENTS ARE EVIDENTLY PRESENT.THE
PRESENCE OF THOSE REQUIREMENTS ARE INFERRED,IF NOT
DIRECTLY AVOWED TO,BY THE MERE PRESENCE OF THE
PLAYER'S NAME ON THE BALLOT.
