After a two month hiatus, the only tour run for the players, by the players, is back in action! The third and final stop of the HAWAIIAN TROPIC BEACH VOLLEYBALL SUMMER SERIES presented by the Sunshine State Outdoor Volleyball Association will be held next weekend, August 12-13, at beautiful SAND KEY BEACH PARK in Clearwater! Over $2,500 in cash and prizes for the top three teams in all divisions! Come to play, and stay to party! THIS WILL BE THE LAST SSOVA EVENT UNTIL THE WINTER SERIES SO DON’T MISS OUT!!!

After a much needed break, we are back and fired up for another great weekend of volleyball and fun! We already have lots of pre-registered teams, with more signing up by the hour! The weather report looks good for both days. Here is all the information that you will need about the weekend. Please note times for check in and start of play have been changed. We hope to see you at the beach!

 

CHECK IN TIMES/PLAY FORMAT: Open Players be sure to check in at the beach between 7:00-8:00, play will start at 8:30! All other levels check in between 8:00-9:00, play will start at 9:30. Juniors and co-ed on Sunday will check in from 8:00-9:00, play will start at 9:30!

 

M/W OPEN- Open level play is double elimination, 2 out of 3 games, Olympic crossover format- just like the pros. The first two games are to 21, third game to 15, win by two. We will be starting Open play at 8:30 AM to try to finish as much of the event as possible in one day, no single game losers bracket so you will get your money’s worth! Open players should check in between 7:00-8:00 to receive court assignments. Please realize that there is a possibility of open levels (particularly Men) continuing on Sunday. Our goal is to finish at least to the semi-finals by Saturday evening. Top three teams in OPEN receive prize money ($1,000 total purse for men, $500 total purse for women)

 

ALL OTHERS- Format is round robin pool play, all games win by two (no cap), with the top teams in each pool advancing to a single elimination playoff bracket. Top three teams in each division will receive prizes compliments of SMACK Sportswear.  

 

CO-ED/JUNIORS (All Levels)- Check in will be between 8:00-9:00 with play starting at 9:30 AM on Sunday and use pool play with single elimination playoffs format. It helps to get a little extra sleep after that player party!

DIRECTIONS TO SAND KEY: The best address to use from MapQuest or Yahoo Maps is 1160 Gulf Blvd, Clearwater, 33767. That is the address of the Sheraton Hotel which is just south of Sand Key Beach Park

HOST HOTEL: We were unable to secure a discounted host hotel for this event, but we recommend the Quality Hotel on the Beach (655 S Gulfview Blvd, 727-442-7171) or TravelLodge (401 S Gulfview Blvd, 727-446-8305) for reasonably priced rooms that are close by the event.

PLAYER PARTY: If you haven't experienced a SSOVA Saturday Night Player Party, you are missing out! The good times will roll from about 8:00 on, location to be determined. More info will be available on site.

AVPNEXT- Memberships are required for ALL players. The good news is that the AVPNext program has lowered their rates this year to $10 for all memberships.
