A personal thank you to all that came out and help supported the YMCA/GCAT
Triathlon. It didn't hit me until later Saturday that I forgot to thank you
during the awards ceremony. Please see the e-mail below from Michelle @ The Y.
Allyson,
Thanks so much for all of your help with the triathlon. We had 35 participants
for the tri and 11 for the fun run. We rasied $ 1000 for the Strong Kids
Campaign. Please tell all of the GCAT volunteers that I greatly appreciate their
help.
Thanks for another successful year!
Michelle

Ironman
Augusta 70.3 September 26, 2010 with TNT (Team in Training is a endurance sport training
program which raises money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.) It was a
sobering reality to see the number of hands raised last night when I asked,
“How many of you have a family or friend battling cancer?” I lost
my dad (63 years old, marathon runner, and one time triathlete) 9 weeks ago to
Lymphoma, and far too many of you have or know similar stories. Watching
someone battle cancer is a helpless feeling, but TNT gives us an opportunity to
DO something. One day a cure will be found for cancer, but this requires
research and research requires funding. This is where you and TNT come in! By
signing up for Augusta 70.3 with TNT, you will receive training for a 70.3,
expenses paid for your participation in the race, and great camaraderie, all
the while being part of moving us one step closer to a cure for blood cancers.
I know the idea of raising money is frightening to some, but I’m here to
tell you “YOU CAN DO IT!” and TNT provides help and support along
the way. I know, because I did it two years ago, and I’m ready to do it
again! For more information contact Molly Molly.Walker@....

Don’t
forget about tonight’s GCAT meeting 6:00 PM at Wintzell’s downtown!
Not only will we celebrate the 2009 Iron
men and women, lament the end of the 2009 tri season, and just have a darn good
time with fellow amazing people, we will take a peek into the 2010 tri season.
How would you like to tri for
something bigger than yourself? How would you like to be part of saving
lives while you conquer a personal fitness goal or push yourself to the next
level? You can do all of this and more by participating in Ironman Augusta 70.3
2010! Ahh come on…it will be more than a good time, more than great
training, more than a gratis trip…it will be life changing!

Hello to all Ironmans, Just wanted to say Congrats to everyone who finished IMFL. I looked up everyone's race results and WOW, looks like everyone kicked ass!!!
Beach 2 Battleship was in Wilmington, NC
B2B was a Great race. If you want a PR or you're a horrible swimmer, this is the Iron for you. I thought it might be a logistical nightmare with 2 transitions, but the RD did a great job on getting people to and from the race. Weather was wicked cold, temps in the high 30's.
The swim starts in a intercoastal channel with an incoming tide. And I mean rip roaring incoming tide. The bouys were flying by me like a freight train. It is also point to point, so there are no bouys to turn around. Most of the athletes swam 1:00 hr or less for the 2.4 mile swim.
The bike course is mostly flat and is one loop going North and then coming back South. The problem is the headwind. But overall I really like the course.
Now for the run. 2 Loop course. Several big hills. 2 Large bridges to run over. The run starts from T2 at the Battleship and goes thru downtown historic Wilmington, which has cobblestones, into a beautiful park and back. The run was fun but tough, but who cares because most of us are walking anyway.
I would have liked to take 30-40 mins. off of my IMFL times just based on how fast the swim was but with my wicked long T1 time, trying to put 2 layers of clothing on and the headwind coming back on the bike course I was not able to do that. Total time was 13:03.
I would do this race again.
Oh, I forgot to mention the awesome Tech shirts. We received 2 long sleeve Tech shirts one black B2B and one navy blue B2B finishers shirt. The finishing medal was a battleship the size of my damn forehead. Awesome!!!

This is a pretty cool idea! They do it in Illinois every year, this will be the first time for Mobile. You can run the whole thing or just one leg, your choice.
They are looking for participants and anyone interested. there are several informational meetings lined up. Please pass along to all runners you know. The lady who is putting it together is awesome, the mother of a teenage girl who had cancer and is in remission now.
