Hi everybody !!!!!
Today, Gaston defeated Ferrero, on the official site of Roland-Garros
we can read:
"Gaudio outlasts Ferrero
By Andrew Bogusch
Friday, June 2, 2006
Two Roland Garros champions went to battle on Court Philippe Chatrier
Friday, and it was Gaston Gaudio, the 2004 winner, left standing in
the end.
Gaudio's 7-5 7-5 7-6(7) victory over 2003 champion Juan Carlos Ferrero
puts him into the round of 16 at a Grand Slam for the fourth time (all
four coming at Roland Garros).
Ferrero's star is fading though. He has not defeated a seeded player
at a Slam since the 2003 US Open. And despite winning the previous
five encounters on clay against Gaudio, the Spaniard could not extend
his Argentine opponent today.
An errant Ferrero backhand clinched the three-hour, 15-minute affair
for Gaudio. The Spaniard fought off three previous match points in the
tiebreaker and was a point away from a fourth set, but failed to
capitalise.
He flirted with extending the match as well in the second set, but
could not serve out at 5-2 or 5-4. Ferrero, the 24th seed, played a
fairly crisp match, but his level seemed to drop each time he had a
chance to take control of the match. Gaudio thumped 50 winners to
Ferrero's 32.
In what was mostly a baseline slugfest, Ferrero and Gaudio produced
some of the best net exchanges of the tournament. After one in the
opening set, the players congratulated each other at the net. Late in
the second, following a drop shot from each, Gaudio lobbed over
Ferrero, who raced to the baseline in time to get his racket on the
ball, but could not get it over the net. The sequence brought an
extended ovation from the crowd.
Gaudio advances to face No6 Nickolay Davydenko or No30 Carlos Moya."
And there is a little video where we can see Gaston at his training.
