For those planning to be in the Masters’
team photo next Sunday (hopefully the entire team), please wear your racing
tank if you have one. If not, a GAR t-shirt or golf shirt will
work. If you don’t have any GAR wear yet, no big deal. Come
on out anyway.
BTW, the weather forecast says it’ll
be a great morning for a row.
Thank you to all who have responded
regarding the GAR yearbook photo. The shoot will be Sunday morning 3/8 at
8:00AM.
The regular Sunday open row will take place immediately after. It would
be great if we could have everyone who is available in the picture. Please
come out and contribute your smile to the photo that will stay with our young
teammates for many years. And, if you’re of a mood, take a row to
brighten your day.

Thank you for your good thoughts. The open rows and tech/rec rows will continue. The new schedule will be effective March 1. It is in the coaches hands for approval. As soon as I get the approval it will be posted to the Masters’ calendar and I’ll send out an announcement. Regarding someone rowing with you, the answer is yes. In years past, with the coming of spring, the club has had a higher level of participation. Just sign up for the rows you want and come out. Everyone in the club remembers their time as a novice and the experienced Masters that rowed with them. They all have demonstrated a willingness to help new rowers get their experience. If there is no one else there for that row you’ll have the undivided attention of the coach and can start getting comfortable in a single which will serve to increase your opportunities on the water.
Hope this answered your questions.

GAR Masters,
I encourage you to work hard and careful, wish I was able to go. I plan on working hard this year and joining you at OARS in 2010. Gary & Kelly have helped me get on the water with a coach 4 x's. I am really greatful to them for their support. I imagine that the Masters that are going to OARS will be doing heavy training. My question is this, do the open rows, tech rows continue at this time? Is there someone that will row with me?
GAR Masters will be well represented at this upcoming race. There are four women and four men signed up for the 3/15 OARS Invitational Regatta. We will need to get our boats together very soon so we can get some practice. If you intend to race, but have not signed up on the Masters’ calendar, please do so right away.

While we, very unfortunately, won’t be able to have everyone there, it would not be right to take the picture without as many of us as possible. Please take a moment and let me know if you can come out and if so, when. Again the possible dates and times are: February 28 at 10:30, March 1 at 8, March 7 at 10:30 and/or March 8 at 8. The shoot will be scheduled on the day when the most members can be there.

I was happy to hear this morning that GAR wants a team picture of
the Masters in this year’s GAR yearbook. I’ve been asked to
get the Masters together for a group photo within two weeks. It will be
shot at the boathouse. We need to pick a date that will allow as many of
us as possible to be in the photo. I was thinking a Saturday morning would
be good or Sunday if need be. We could follow the sitting with a
row. Please reply to garygookin@bellsouth.net.
The choices are February 28 at 10:30, March 1 at 8, March 7 at 10:30 and/or
March 8 at 8. Please let me know any of these dates that would allow you
to be in the picture. Please do this ASAP as I need to coordinate with

My Husband just pledged $50.00 for whatever I do! Not bad. Any other Husband's or Wife's willing to pledge? See you on Sun.
Please clarify, do the Masters need to be there at 0900 or 1000? Erg-a-thon lasts how long? I'm beginning to feel the excitement, young & old. The best part is, parents with their children & beautiful weather at the Phillip's Center.
To the parent's of rowers: Take a good look at your beautiful child that has chosen to engage in the best possible, honorable sport. It stands to reason, that parents should follow their child's example.
It's never too late to join the Master's GAR. Come out and see us on Sun. We're the grey hairs having fun while doing the best we can to keep the body and soul in shape for our future years.

There's always time to get pledges. You don't have until just Sunday to do it. As stated in my previous email, you can get pledges even after the erg-a-thon is over. Just erg some meters and then pledge for those meters rowed next week!! Thanks for everyone's enthusiasm and support...even those who can't erg on Sunday!!

As if we don’t have enough reasons to be involved in the Erg-A-Thon, here’s a couple more. Coach Michael has made this limited time offer; if we get seven or more pledge bearing Masters on the ergs Sunday morning, he’ll do a 10k himself. It’s our best and, maybe, only chance to get even for some of those nasty pieces he’s laid on us. We have four signed up now. To make it even sweeter, he’ll kick in a hundred bucks to the Masters’ fundraising effort. That should be enough to get even the most fervent erg haters out.

incentive for the Erg-A-Thon
As if we don’t have
enough reasons to be involved in the Erg-A-Thon, here’s a couple
more. Coach Michael has made this limited time offer; if we get seven or
more pledge bearing Masters on the ergs Sunday morning, he’ll do a 10k
himself. It’s our best and, maybe, only chance to get even for some
of those nasty pieces he’s laid on us. We have four signed up
now. To make it even sweeter, he’ll kick in a hundred bucks to the
Masters’ fundraising effort. That should be enough to get even the
most fervent erg haters out.
For
those who aren’t on the GAR listserv, there is a link below to GAR’s
SmugMug page. You’ll find a wealth of pictures from races, events
and other occasions. There are even some candid shots of some of the Masters.
If you decide you want to buy a print or download of any of the photos GAR gets
a substantial benefit. Enjoy the page.

I'd rather be...

SmugMug updates are on-line!
Hello!
SmugMug updates are up including new 2008 Sunrise
Sprint photos (Thanks Mike D!!!), new 2008-9 Practice photos
(thanks for these absolutely beautiful shots by assistant coach Julianne) and a
new gallery, 2009 Erg Sprints, which has two photos of almost every
rower! (Thanks again Mike D!)
I do
not mind erging, I just do not have time to chase pledges. However, I will
sponsor all Masters @ $1/km.

Unfortunately I can't erg as I'm out of town, but I'd like to sponsor someone. If anyone is looking for more pledges, send me an e-mail.
Thanks!
