A few of us were talking on Monday night about how we need to do a dump training in singles. The weather is getting cooler so I decided to act now! We are having a dump training at Melrose Bay (see link above) at 1:00 on Sunday afternoon. You can wear a bathing suit or rowing clothes, your choice. It's a nice place to be in the water with minimal reptile activity so you can take your time learning how to get back in after you flip. We will be meeting at the beach area, not the boat ramp. Please sign up on the calendar if you are interested.
Hope we can get a good crowd!! If we have many sign up I might send out another email asking for someone with an SUV to strap a second single to their luggage rack. I'm going to bring Steve's car and I can fit one tub.
Thanks!

That would be great. I will have two boats out there. I strongly suggest learning how to get into a tub first and then only do it on your boat one or two times. It's really hard on the boat to do this so I hesitate letting too many people try it on your boat since it's so nice. I will be bringing one that is similar so we can use that as well.
Thanks! Congrats on the new boat!

REMINDER! We are EXPECTING OVER 300 plus at this Event! We definitely NEED your appetizers! Thank you! Lori (for Nina, Fundraising Chairperson)
Calling All GAR Parents (1 more time),
Everyone did such a "BANG UP" job on the baked goods for Gator Head, we would like to "BEG" you one more time for the Wine Tasting Event, this Friday, November 20th.
This week will be our final push for selling all of our wine tasting tickets. One suggestion would be to buy them and then give them away to teachers, doctors, business associates as a nice little gift. I bought and then gave away my pancake breakfast tickets to teachers and it was very well received and appreciated! A WIN WIN situation!
Could you all please bring a Hearty Appetizer - to serve at least 40 people? Last year we ran out of food and someone had to make a run to the store. It was quite embarrassing! We want to make sure every one has plenty to eat while drinking their wine, enjoying the music, and mingling with their friends.
Many of you have asked for ideas of what to bring. Below are several very easy and quick appetizers:
Dips with bread Crackers or chips Cheese and Crackers Deli Meats Pinwheels Favored breads or rolls Pizza rolls
Cheese Ball with Nice Crackers Mixed nuts with a scoop to take them out with Smokies (little hot dogs) in BBQ sauce - very popular! Heat up in crock pot Meatballs with sauce - very popular! Heat up in crock pot
Publix seafood spread and crackers Cheese chunks or cubes and toothpicks Cream cheese block with pepper jelly on top with crackers Pepperoni or sausage dimes - bite size pieces with toothpicks & mustard dip
Finger sandwiches Vegetable trays Fruit trays - pineapple, apple, strawberries Apple trays with cheese and caramel sauce from Sam’s Melon wrapped in prosciutto Cheese wrapped in pepperoni Baby quiches
Sausage balls Mini hot dogs in croissants rolls Roundel - light cream cheese mix - herb & garlic, sun-dried tomato, etc. in a pretty tub - ready to serve!Cream puffs with crab meat - eloquent and very popular the last two years!
Chocolate - Anything Chocolate is sure to please the crowd!
Cream puffs - little, baby eclairs Lemon Bars Brownies with icing from Sam’s - cut in small pieces on a nice platter
Please bring enough that will feed 40 people. We are expecting a very large crowd this year.
Remember, if you work, you can arrange to drop your items off early at the Perfect Gift, in your cooler, etc. labeled with your name for easy return.
Please try to drop off your item no later than 4:30 PM, if at all possible, as the event begins promptly at 5:00 PM.
Please contact Nina Cornwell at 352-317-6179 if you need assistance getting your appetizer to The Perfect Gift.
This is a truly lovely event and I hope we can put our BEST GAR foot forward. Thank you again!
Lori
P.S. Nina will be down at the boat house this Thursday, for all of you who would like to hand in your envelopes with money and/or unsold tickets. Rowers may also give this to their coaches during the week, but please return money and tickets in envelopes with the rowers name clearly indicated - very important for our records!

Morning?
Hi
Everyone,
I would like to go out for a row tomorrow (Thursday, 11/18) morning.
Is there any one out there that would like to join me?
Attached to this email is the racing schedule for this weekend. The venue is Bill Frederick Turkey Lake Park in Orlando. Here is the physical address to that you may GPS or get directions: 3401 Hiawassee Road, Orlando 32835 407-299-5581, 407-299-5594
I would allow 2 hrs to get there and find the regatta parking.
Plan on arriving 90 minutes prior to your race so that you can acclimate, stretch, adjust boat stuff, etc.
Here is a link to the regatta packet that includes a waiver that you need to print and sign and have prior to your race. DO NOT FORGET THIS WAIVER! It is on page 7 of the packet at this link: http://www.regattacentral.com/regatta/packets/1317.pdf
I will not be there this weekend but I wish you all safe courses and great races!!!

Sorry to "reply all" but Penny's question is a good one without an answer. The more people we have the longer it will take! With two boats I'd feel safe telling you that we could be gone by 3:00. If someone has a need to be the first one, that's fine with me! Penny-your car sounds great for transporting!
Thanks,

Because of the wine tasting, equipment will be loaded up Thursday during youth practice (including our 5 racing eights). The Anita June (the yellow boat on the outside of the boathouse) will be up and running on Thursday for you to use during masters practice. This hull is used daily by the men's 3rd and 4th eight and is not as depressing as you remember it from the learn to rows :-) In no way should this deter you from signing up, I just want everyone on the same page with equipment loading.
We have 6 of our mixed 8 members signed up to row tomorrow night (that's Thursday Nov 19th). Can we get the whole group together for a 1 time practice before our race on Saturday? Also, how about a cox'n?

Final push for the ticket sales for the wonderful Wine Tasting fundraiser this Fri. at Haile sponsored by The Perfect Gift. As my own donation, I have chosen to give tickets to my hairstylist, chiropractor, massage therapist, clerk at work, etc. The tickets are well received and certainly go for a good cause! Good Luck and have fun. Don't forget the snacks for 40 people that can be dropped off at The Perfect Gift or brought with you.

Masters,
Don't forget that we have two regattas coming up soon. Right now we have seven rowers for the Head of the Giblet on Nov. 21st. The Head of the Giblet is 3 miles on Turkey Lake. You can still sign up today and we will be able to get our entries done in time. Later tonight I will look at the sign up list and call Brian so that he can do line-ups.
For the Sunrise Sprints you have until 11/25 to sign up. I would like to encourage you to sign up for regattas as soon as possible so that we can assemble line-ups and practice them. Waiting until the last minute makes it very difficult to become proficient with your line-up. The Sunrise Sprints is 1,000 meters on Lake Fairview in Orlando.

Aside from an early morning nip to the air, the weather was great for
racing and the venue was, as usual, beautiful. The area has been
receiving heavy rainfall and the river was running very fast this year.
The TVA did an excellent job of regulating flow so the event could be held but
the current did present some challenges. Race officials did an
exceptional job of keeping the events very close to the schedule while making
allowances for the water conditions.
As a club, GAR Masters finished in a tie for 16th
place out of 44 clubs entered.
Here’s how the nine GAR boats did:
Men’s Master 4X - 9th
Mixed Open 2X - Gold Medal
Mixed Master 2X - 21st
Women’s Championship 2X – 9th
Women’s Master 2X – 15th
Mixed Master 4X - 11th
Women’s AA-A-B 1x – Silver Medal and 13th
Mixed Master 8+ - 17th
Special congratulations are in order for Jen Figueroa.
In the Mixed Open 2X she and Bill Griffith rowed to a gold medal. In the Womens’
Masters AA-A-B 1X, after having to return to the dock to replace her failed boat
seat, followed by a draining row to get the to start line in time, Jen was
still fastest on the water and, after handicap, finished second by a mere 3/10
of a second.
Also, congratulations to Coach Justin who rowed to a silver medal in
the Men’s Master 8+.
It was a good year for GAR Masters at the Hooch. The
team truly demonstrated the progress we have made over the last year. Next
year everyone can expect more and faster boats from Gainesville. Something
to look forward to!
