I can build a strong K241 engine for you if you're interested. Send me an
email & let's talk.

If you use the rear drive assembly out of a Power King tractor you have three
options to choose from the Jim Dandy had a higher ratio, the 16' and 18'
tractors had a lower ratio and the post 1982 up glass tractors have a reverse
rotation rear end that is driven from the flywheel side of the engine all are
good to at least 50 HP but may take more and the differential is a Dana
model30....Jon

If you do away with the reduction gears, it will turn the opposite
direction.  Then  you install the ring gear and carrier on the other side of the
pinion gear.  This can be done in a cub transaxle without any other
modifications or problems.

Mention of this is made in one of Brian Millers Pulling Pages on the cub
transaxle.

I've hear of others using various different engines that turn the opposite
direction and making this change.

Here is a link to a picture of the tractor with the planetary final drives. I
can try emailing the owner to try and find out some more info on it. It is a big
opposed twin engine. If he is running without any reduction gears in the front
wouldn't the trans be turning back-wards? I guess he could have the engine
turned around to make it go the right way.

don't know much about the setup though. Its a Cub trans-axle with aluminum
spacers between the case and axle housings where the planetary gears are. I
think the trans turns at engine speed and he gets the reduction with the
planetary gears. I think his idea is that spinning the trans/diff much faster
and then slowing it down after the differential will let it handle more power
and not break.

gears are not in the front anymore so the drive shaft from the engine goes to

Well, for starters .100,000" is just over 3/32"(.09375)

So, this can make the pistons, cylinder, rod, and crankshaft

all at the same time already assembled and all parts move?

They said they were assembled within the machine, compensating for different
parts, and there was a special liquid to place into the spaces between parts.
Just wash them off in some chemical, and they worked. It was wild!

Thanks for all the insight everyone has given me. I have been working a design
for a planetary final drive set up. It will be a direct bolt into a standard
Cub frame and will allow the motor to be mounted in the stock location. It
should be about 30-40 pounds lighter than the stock transaxle set-up. It will
also have a small gear box on the front of the rear end housing to allow for

it blows my mind seeing a complicated (gears/shafts/sliding/rotating parts)
functioning machine pop out of the part maker WITHOUT ANY ASSEMBLY !!! it's
rather hard to get a grip on that !!

The company I was working for in the 80's looked into one of these
machines back then. They determined it was cheaper to make the
prototype parts machined from scratch at that time. I'm sure the

So he is running the drive shaft right to the pinion with no reduction prior
to that. Does he have the ability to change gear ratios or is he set with
one ratio? Also do you knwo what he is using for the planetary gears? Thanks
for the info.

The engine also sits real low in the frame because the normal reduction gears
are not in the front anymore so the drive shaft from the engine goes to the
trans top shaft. At least I think thats how its set up.
