It is possible to get contamination from the previous tractor if it
failed. its also possible to get contamination from tractor to tractor
if the fuels were not of the same brand but not for the acid test. So
we will normally do 2 tests if there was a failure. I don't know what
the guys did in Tallmadge, I was not doing the fuel tests there. If you
want to avoid possible contamination be ready (meaning have the needed
tools handy) to take your fuel line off at the carb and pump out the
fuel needed for the test. most pullers never have the tools they need
to remove the fuel line so we usually use the suction bulb to get the
fuel from the tank. We do at times make everyone take off the fuel line
at the carb for the fuel tests just to make sure there aren't 2 tanks
on the tractor.
Now just because 2 or 3 guys use the same fuel from the same can does
not mean they will all pass the fuel tests. If they at one time ran a
illegal fuel or incompatable fuels and the tank, pump & lines were not
cleaned out decent it can cause problems. I wish I had a penny for
every time a guy said "I run the same fuel from the same can as so & so
and they were OK?"
All we can do is go by the results of the test. the test don't lie
and its difficult to figure out why each failed tractor failed &
why.the bottom line is if you want to avoid any form of contamination
is to be ready to remove your fuel line & pump out the amount needed
for the test. its hard to even find something to clean the suction bulb
that will not alter fuel tests.

Steve,
Here is the website for our club.
http://mtempiretractorpullers.freeservers.com/

We would love to have you come down. You could do a mapquest from your
location to Rural Retreat, VA. That should tell you the drive time.

Don,

I think you are missing my point. I agree that fuel additives
should be illegal. I have always run straight VP C12 right from the
can. My point was I watched someone originally fail that was
running the same VP C12 that I was. I had hoped someone from NQS
would answer my question regarding if the problem truly was a
contaminated siphon from the guy before him that did have bad fuel.
I want to understand the procedure and insure it his prevented in
the future.

I had hoped for a response from Julian, but I don't think I got one
unless I overlooked it.

I have a 23 I do pulling with. It is actually, a 'twin' barrel
carb. One bowl, one float, two pick-ups, two main jets, two idle mix
screws.

Hope that helps,

I would like to add to my earlier post.
According to the repair manual, horizontal shaft models 351400 and
380400 series and vertical shaft models 351700 and 380700 series have
the 2 barrel carbs. The 380700 series has the biggest jets of all.

The class I pull in does not allow electric fuel pumps so I am going to find a
stock pump and get it mounted and get rid of the hulk of a stock gas tank.
   Thanks

I didn't mean to mount the gas tank to the grill itself. I meant mount it to
the grill support, or the outer structure that supports the grill.

Hey all

Does anyone have any information from either the Tri county ohio or
Strasburg Pullers as far as a 2006 schedule? i have been checking the
websites and noting yet, any help would be appricated.

Also
i was going over the Strasburg Pullers stock altered rules and they
stae that the hitch must be fixed does this mean that the adjustable
hitch that every other club out there finds ok is unacceptable????,
can somone from the Straburg club make a clarification on this for me
please.

thanks in advance for the help

If you want to be a competetive puller, then I think you'd be better off
investing your time, energy & money in an IH clutch drive Cub Cadet, and use the
Bolens & Wheel Horse to mow your grass.

Never tell anyone you're a "poor man." Instead, say you're "a man on a tight
budget." You'll gain more respect from people that way, because most people
can relate to your needs better.
