I have had similar issues. Once, the points weren't grounded to the block. I had to take the points out, sand the baseplate on the points, and the engine...

WELL 10 points to whom ever asked about the kill switch the jumper wire in the part that pulls out in the event of a break away was loose just a rats hair...
