Hello Tim
My name is Morris. I am based in Africa, Kenya. I would like to setup futsal in kenya, we do not have futsal here and i would like to be the pioneer by setting up some futsal courts. I am looking for any information on costing of the courts, like the price of turf, price of netting etc.
Any help or advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

competition and new hope for advancements such as pro futsal and large

Alex Para has now voluntarily abandoned his copyright on the word
"Futsal" and is now only copyrighting the terms US Futsal and United
States Futsal Federation.
You are now free to use the word Futsal without worrying about
violating this copyright.
RICHMOND, Va. (7-19-08) - The basic problem with the U.S. selection playing in the FIFA Futsal World Championship in Brazil is that most or all of the players don't play Futsal. Under the best of circumstances it would be difficult to face teams such as Brazil, Spain, Italy and Argentina in a world tournament, but it get even worse if you don't actually play the game..
U.S. Coach Keith Tozer is head coach of the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), which either is in transition or has gone out of business, depending on whom you talk to. Most of the players on Tozer's roster have been drawn from the MISL, which plays the six-a-side wall game.
The U.S. team may be competitive at a mid level in world Futsal, but it can not be expected to compete at the top level against teams that are drawn from top-flight professional Futsal leagues throughout the world and have only to fine-tune their game for this tournament.
The need is obvious for a professional Futsal league in the U.S. producing players for the national team. Futsal has been in this country for the past 27 years, but there has been no serious attempt to create a professional league.
The basic problem is that U.S. Soccer controls international Futsal competition and has stocked the U.S. selections with players from the wall game who relate to Futsal only as an afterthought.
That system could change now, however, in light of recent events. MISL has gone into a transition stage, and there is no professional indoor league to provide players. This is a great opportunity for MISL to resurface playing by FIFA indoor rules, or for an entirely new professional futsal league to emerge with the support of U.S. Soccer and FIFA.

If not MISL, at least US Soccer should launch a national league or sometingh like that.

RICHMOND, Va. (7-11-08) - I'll say it again: the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) should switch to the World Indoor Game, and in some ways it already has.
The MISL plays six-a-side indoor soccer with dasher boards for its league games, but it also plays Futsal regularly in international competition. Virtually the entire roster of most U.S. Futsal selections is comprised of MISL players.
Futsal is the unchallenged World Indoor Game. Several years ago, there was some brief discussion about using dasher boards in international competition, but the idea was summarily dropped.
The MISL could easily drop the dasher boards and adopt the side and end lines used by the rest of the world. We realize MISL is a business, and if they're succeeding with a certain set of rules they would not want to tamper with it. But we feel that by adopting the univerally accepted international rules MISL would retain the best of what they have now and get even better.
(Photo: Action with walls in the MISL. The boards are not necessary in indoor soccer.)
In the transitional stage, MISL would not necessarily have the call their game Futsal if that created marketing problems, and, for similar reasons, they could continue to use the turf and six players. But it would be a major step forward if the league dropped the anachronistic dasher boards and joined the rest of the world with side and end lines.
The world indoor game is Futsal.
It was developed by Juan Carlos Ceriani in Uruguay in 1930 for use in YMCAs and became very popular in Brazil and other South American Countries. All of the great Brazilian stars, including Ronaldo, grew up playing Futsal. Ronaldo has called the game his "first love" and has said that it is the key to his success on the outdoor field. Futsal is now played all over the world, and UEFA, in particular, has made great strides developing the sport. Asia is producing excellent national teams, and Oceania just completed an impressive FIFA Futsal qualifying tournament.
The indoor wall game was developed by U.S. marketers who thought erroneously that the walls would add speed and excitement to the game. The walls actually slow down the game, deprive it of its natural focus and beauty and hinder the spectators' view of the action. Basically, the MISL game is pseudo dynamic.
Coverage of the MISL is often filled with Futsal news, because MISL players are being chosen for the U.S. Team. A league feature, a league highlight, is that it plays Futsal, the world indoor game, in international competitions. The next step is for them to make it their league game, as well.

Tim,
Greetings! I am with the Boys & Girls Club of Lansing, MI, and we are currently considering integrating Futsal into our physical fitness programs. Being a non-profit organization, we are in the process of procuring funds for this venture. I was looking around online today for estimated training costs for coaches and referees. The Michigan Futsal page is fairly desolate, so I thought contacting someone that seems to be very astute in the Futsal community might be the most viable option.
We provide services to children ages 7-17 and utilize volunteer coaches and referees for our physical education programs. I noticed in much of the literature that Futsal has been introduced to Boys & Girls Clubs around the nation, though we had not heard anything of it until recently. It seems like a good fit for our inner-city location and any resources or information you can provide us would be greatly appreciated.

Who would not want to play Futsal here?
We have 5 courts all larger then any “National” Futsal tournaments in the USA!
Score Goal 24/7 Inc. & Utah Futsal
are no longer with the US Futsal, we are affiliated with US Soccer through our local Adult
Utah Soccer Association.
We now have over 250 teams playing in our facility per week, plus over 100 hours of rental time each week.
This is an indication of where the Sport of Futsal has come in the last 5 years, when we first started Futsal here we had only 36 players, now there are over
3000 Futsal Players in the State of Utah.
(Note the goal! And 2 Referees at a local youth game! )
We will have a U12 boys team from Brazil
her in February to play in our 4th Annual President’s Day
Futsal Cup. Renato Lopes a Former Professional Player and now Professional
Coach will be here as well holding Futsal Clinics from teams and personal
training as well. Our Leagues have grown to over 140 teams and Futsal in Utah has exploded around
the whole State with new league boasting 90, 65, 50, and 30 teams in the
different league through out our State.
Attached is more information about our
tournament. We have found room for as low as $100 per night in downtown SLC and
within walking distance to the SaltPalaceConvention
Center. We even have free shuttles from the
Airport to the Hotels, then free TRAX in downtown SLC, no need to rent a car on
this trip.
We have over 50 teams committed to play in
this tournament as of today, which was the total amount of teams we had last
year.
Please feel free to contact us with any
questions,

Peter
I was considering it ... but that is the last day
of our league season. We had our schedule set before we
found out about your tournament. Next year I will offer to
schedule around it for teams that want to attend.
What does your BU14, BU16 and BU19 age group look
like?
I do have your tournament on our webpage and will
be talking to teams to see if they wish to go.

I agree 100%. Keep in mind that USFF has been sending everyone who
plays futsal outside of their leagues a "cease and desist" letter. I
hope this has changed into the futsal state you describe.

I must have gotten my history wrong. "No one knew what Futsal was in

competition in YMCAs."

Sounds good to me. Did you know that the first US National Futsal
Team match took place in 2002 in Washington and Baltimore? WOW! US
Soccer did nothing financially to help that event except provide a
team to play that was completely made up of MISL players. I'm sure US
Futsal could have come up with a better quality team. A team made up
of Futsal players.

at the indoor game. If they see the benefits of Futsal, more action,
more scoring, more fan excitement than any MISL indoor soccer game,
then maybe they will see the light as we all have. They need to
reevaluate their business plan.

Yes US Soccer has the money to back anything they want. They also have the political backing. As federal documents will show US Futsal officially trademark the Futsal name in 1987. No one knew what Futsal was in 1987 or 2000 for that matter. It is only recently that people see the value in Futsal. Not just with youth skill development but with money. Obviously US Soccer sees lots of $$$$ in there eyes now that FIFA wants a Futsal World Championship in the US. I did a little research in this matter over the past few months. Did you know that FIFA did not change the name to FUTSAL until 1996? That's ten years after US Futsal incorporated the name.
Regardless it's still about the kids. Now that the sport is growing the more US Soccer wants it. They want it for the $$$$$. Nothing more nothing less. For years US Soccer did not care about US Futsal. It's obvious since they never promoted the game until the past year or so. They certainly never gave US Futsal any $$ to help develop the game. I see futsal in the hands of US Soccer as both a blessing and a curse.. The good part is that they have the resources and the money to actually promote the game and take it past the grassroots level. The downside is that the national team will continue to be made up of mostly MISL players, probably none of whom play futsal outside of national team preparation (and don't think for a minute that the MISL will lift a finger to have a futsal tourney or anything to help get them ready). The only hope I see for a pro futsal league in this country would be to have Nike or somebody have some sort of pro tour (like the old roller hockey league that played at Disney), and pay ESPN or Versus to show it in between "Extreme Butt Scratching," and "World Series of Finding Pi" (hey, they show the national spelling bee and drum corps, so why not?).
Well said. It's just a matter of getting those players not playing in the MISL the exposure they need to give them that national team opportunity.

I can play Futsal in any local unaffiliated league in any town through out the USA , and pay money and get accepted to any Futsal Tournament. The only way I will not get accepted is if there are too many or not enough teams in that particular age, gender, for that bracket in that tournament . USFF & the Super F do not exclude teams who participate in each other’s league. (I know of a team that played in both “National” Tournaments during 2007!
As for the National Team I spoke with Keith Tozer personally and he told me he will take any player that can play Futsal better then the 12 he has. He did not say this, but I will bet that he does not ask what Futsal League do they come from or are affiliated with! I am sure if 4 players came form the SFL and 4 from USFF and they were US Citizens and they played better Futsal then the MISL players he will take them no questions asked..
Now that is how I see Futsal is in this country! We have grown so quickly that we have 2 different National Associations, how many does Soccer have, USSF , US Club Soccer , US Youth Soccer, AYSO, Local City Recreational leagues, so why should Futsal be any different and only have one?
Keep playing FUTSAL and let’s all work on developing players that will only play FUTSAL , and Soccer will only be played for “FUN” for our FUTSAL players, that’s the goal for Futsal in the USA!
No one has to “qualify” to play in either of the 2 Largest Futsal “National” Tournaments, sign up early and pay the fees and you will be in a National Tournament, it is just that easy!
