ANAHEIM, Calif. (7-18-05) - The Southern California Futsal Academy Womens Open team rolled to its second consecutive U.S. Futsal National Championship, turning back the El Paso, Tex., Eagues 2-0 Sunday at the Anaheim Convention Center.
The SCFA team successfully defended its 2004 National Championship by defeating five other teams including the 2005 Midwest Regional Champion Eagles. Along with the Women's Title, 13 other National Champions were crowned this weekend from the 110 competing teams representing their states and regions across the United States.
Members of the SCFA winning team were Jennifer Tanaka, Tawny Poggio, Kristi Tanaka, Kat Avendano, Madison Klovstad, Laura Quintero, Erica Janke, Sahar Haghdan, Lauren Cram, Darci Gwartz, and Claire Beitcher.
"El Paso was very tough for us," said SCFA Technical Director Garett Hoshijo. "We faced them last year in the final match and we knew it was going to be a difficult road for us. We had to be at the top of our game in the championship match to come out with the win."
Since Southern Calif. Futsal Academy was founded in 2003, it has won five U.S. Futsal Federation national titles. SCFA
