RE: Kl World 5: deleted? - Article on futsalplanet
Dear Victor, Daniel and all,
Thank you for your e-mails. I was totally worried about the cancellation of the KL5 event for good. But I now understand the situations and have been relieved to hear that this is just a postponement, not cancellation.
As the importance of KL5 itself, especially KL5 this year has another meaning that we'll have the World Championship. We should watch the highest performance of world futsal in Taipei. Every participating countries to the Taipei should do their preparation work to confirm their standards, also the referees should do the same.
Also, this event has a quite big influence to Asian Futsal development as everyone in Asia feels. I hope the sponsorship issue be solved soon to hold the tournament at the earliest basis.
Warmest Regards,
Zak

Thank you Victor.
Dear Mico and all listed below.
Victor is quite correct in his summation of the current situation. There is no need to panic. As you all know, since 1997 we have continually staged and improved the Tiger 5s/KL World 5s to reflect what we feel is one of the world's most exciting sports.
Our commitment and dedication to the sport has not wavered and has only deepened over the years. As with any tournament, we are dependent upon our commercial sponsors to allow us to stage the event at the level and stature that the futsal fraternity has come to expect - the free flights and accommodation, the highest prize money and the first class live television production. Without our sponsors it would not be possible to deliver this flagship event.
We did not make an official statement on the postponement of the tournament as it is just that - a postponement. We are not talking about cancellation - after 7 years we feel as though we are only just beginning in terms of developing and expanding the event. We certainly do not plan to see it disappear.
Please bear with us - I hope that we have exhibited enough credibility over the past 7 years that you believe me when I say that we are in this for the long term. We believe in futsal, we believe in the KL World 5s, we were able to stage the event last year in the midst of the SARS crisis and we will continue to stage the event as soon as we have finalised sponsorship.
If anyone needs any further information or wants to contact me directly please do so.
My best wishes to you all & I look forward to welcoming you back to the 5s very soon.
Daniel

Dear Mico and dear all,
Just I brief note. I have talked about this issue with Daniel Metcalfe. We have to be careful with the way we put things in writing and always let the original source explain the situation as it is. It is not of any help for our sport to throw news like that. We must be responsible and careful about our sport.
KL 5s has been so far postponed as a consequence of the new arrival of a Minister who legitimate needs to understand what is going on around her area and the financial commitmentments engaged by her predecesor.
KL 5s will keep having all the support of our community so that the current Malaysian authorities fully understand the positive impact of this tournament for their country in the sporting, social (youth), tuirstic and financial fields.
Even if that was not the case, I would remind you that this tournament was staged for several years in Singapore. Once it moved to Malaysia, it did not only keep its values and interest but improved them.
My friends, please do not panic and make other people panic when there is no reason. Futsal is stronger that ever and ESPNStar Sports officials and Futsal deserve all our support rather than our groundless alarm.
I will be stating officially which is my position and view on the future of futsal and it will be done through futsalplanet. In the meantime, I would like to ask you to prove our respect and gratitude to Richard Young and Daniel Metcalfe for their constant efforts for Futsal. We all have so many international projects to develop together that we need to stick to each other without any hesitation.
Best regards,
Víctor

>Dear All,
>

>Is this so? If it is, I believe there is still an optimistic outlook for Futsal and that there are other opportunities abound, especially among the countries that participated in the AFC Championship (Japan, Korea, China, Iran, Taiwan...). I honor the KL World 5's as "the" premiere invitational tournament in the Futsal World, in a truly showcase format, available to all Asia. The KL World 5's (Tiger 5's/Malaysia 5's) broadcast on Espnstar, was one of the main reasons why my Country, and myself took an interest to Futsal!
>
>I am optimistic that if this does or does not push through, there is room for smaller tournaments in larger quantities, but with greater effect because the cumulative effort tying them up together with a greater objective that can actually amount to more, creating a more sustained program with a clear long-term vision.
>
>Whether it be Sport-tourism Asia, grass-roots development through the trickle down of technical resources, an East Asian Super League, there are bundles if the resources are found and bound together. The first resource I think we must always find in dark times are Spirit/Will and Knowledge/Intellect (Finances will always follow as Lee Iacocca of Chrysler, now GM said, a great business always starts with a good product to offer!), Futsal can make us do it as Football has...
>
>These are just my personal views, sharing the optimisim I have for the sport, what it gives, and honoring the effort that was started by ESPNStar and other countries/individuals that believed... This can only happen if the neighbors work together in harmony and confidence among one another, we must share the burden if we are to share the benefits...

> According to some recent voices the second edition of the international tournament KL World 5 will not be organized. This edition was supposed to start in the beginning of June. A change in the Malaysian government, with the substitution of the Sports Minister, should be the cause of this bad news for International Futsal. We'll keep you updated on the next news about the KL World 5.
