Well, friends - it's that time again.  Funny to think that I've only been
doing these races for about a  year - whatever did I do with all the free
time I used to have?!  As you know, triathlons have given me so much already
- not least the sheer joy and sense of accomplishment about doing something
I never thought I'd do, ever!  (I know, I know, most of you never thought
I'd ever do something like this either!!!)  It's with that spirit in mind,
that of beating the odds, that I come to you to encourage your donation to
the American Cancer Society.

There are many ills in the world, literally and figuratively, and it seems
impossible that any of us can make a dent in any of them.  But a journey of
1,000 miles begins with a single step.  In this heated political season, and
with uncertainty seemingly all around, keep in mind that each of us can make
a difference, and that there is no gesture too small.  Because every little
bit helps, and you never know how your gesture will affect someone else for
the good.

We have all been touched by cancer, one way or another.  For me, the impetus
for putting this together was watching helpless as dear friends lost their 4
year old daughter after a brutal struggle.  But also, I have watched a young
mother come through breast cancer with shining colors.  And have seen
relatives struggle with scares and scary treatments.  And other friends have
lost loved siblings in the prime of their lives.   No one goes untouched.
But everyone can help a little bit, and sooner or later, our collective
efforts will pay off!

Ye time is nigh to start preparing for the 6th Anal Pirate - Island Invasion of
the Jolly Roger Hash House Harriers! But first, we must commandeer a ship.
Weee've selected a fine lady! The Carnival Inspiration setting sail January 22nd
through January 26th in the year of our lord, two thousand and nine!!!!

Here are the preliminaries: This cruise departs out of Tampa, Florida at 4:00
PM, on Thursday, January 22nd 2009. It arrives in Cozumel, Mexico on Saturday
morning at 7:00 AM and departs that Saturday evening at 6:00 PM. The ship
arrives back in Tampa on Monday morning at 8:00 AM. There will be 3 on board
ship hashes and 1 hash in Cozumel.  We will have 3 private cocktail lounge
parties with an open bar with free beer & liquor all included in the prices
listed below.  In addition, there will also be a hash challenge (games) for
prizes on Sunday, January 27th. Pricing is as follows;
Pricing : CABIN        TOTAL

                 4A inside    $385.10 each (double occupancy)

                 6A outside  $435.10 each (double occupancy)

                11 Suite       $805.10 each (double occupancy)

3RD & 4TH PERSONS

If cuming from the north, find the Florida Turnpike and drive south to
exit 29 GET OFF, thence turn left and drive east toward civilization,
this is 41st Street/Doral Blvd. (On the right side you'll see a
Navarro's Drug store). Make a right on 114th Ave. If you went past
McDonald's you went too far!! Almost immediately make another right
turn into the strip mall THEN an immediate turn left UP THE RAMP. Free
parking on the second level. Look for vivacious and boisterous hashers.

If cuming from the south, drive north on the Florida Turnpike and GET

Trail is A-B, with B being Titanic, so you'll end up at your car.
Trail is moderate in length and low-moderate shiggy. Stroller, dog
and blade friendly. Even unicycle friendly if you got one.
Transportation to start location from Titanic is provided.
IMPORTANT – since transportation to start is provided you'll want to
get there before 7:30pm. If you are running late (Belly dancer and
Jamaica mi horney) give me a call so I know you're on the way - 917-
714-6885. Since it is getting dark earlier these days please plan
appropriately. Flashers are always good, but anything that gives
light will help...you'll want it. Cost of the hash is $5, that
includes your transportation to the start, beverages before, during
and after the hash and snacks at the circle. On after at Titanic!!
NOTE: Parking in Univ. Miami commuter lots (marked by a sea shell I
think) after 4pm is free. There are also meters if you'd like to pay.

D'erections from the north – Take I-95 south, it will turn into US-
1. Follow US-1 south to Red Road (57th Ave) and take a right. Take
another right (shortly thereafter) onto Levante Ave. and follow
until it dead ends into San Amaro Dr. (2 blocks). Look for screaming
hashers on your right and you're there.

From the south – Take US-1 to Red Road (57th Ave) and take a left.

it seems not easy to believe that no one offered anything.

i remember reading at least one message from
one HHH person asking you where you were going
to be, etc. etc. etc.  that person informed me that
you never responded to that person's questions.
you never provided a telephone number, nothing.

it also seems odd that you were not able to go
with the person who owns the hotel.

we do not live in broward county at all,
35 miles away toward the southwest.

i have stayed in all sorts of sleeping establishments,
from campgrounds to youth hostels to pensions,
to bus stations and train stations.  i have been to the hotel
in question once. i agree that it probably is not
the WALDORF ASTORIA but it easily is sufficient for
just hanging out at the beach all day, and then enjoying
the nearby nightlife.  you were always able to check out
the establishment first, and move on to another location
if that one was not in agreement with your standard
of travel accomodations.

i have been "in your boat" in the past, as a visitor.
some of the visitor times have been great, and some
have been great personal struggles in order to arrive
at the start location for a HHH run.

i make no judgments. i just look at all angles of the situation.
