Hash House Harriers: A Drinking Club With a Running Problem.
We are the South Florida kennel of the global hashing phenomenon. There is no "sound byte" description or explanation for what we do. However, imagine combining a liquid picnic with light orienteering, and you may start to get the idea. We call our favorite activity "hashing", but don't be misled. Although hashing's not actually drug-related, beer or other alcohol forms may be consumed in copious volumes at a hash. Aside from that, we cannot be responsible for things some hashers may do on their own time, or for that matter, responsible for anything, period. Hashing traces its sporting roots to the traditional English schoolyard game "hounds and hares". We are conducting behavioral research on the effects of various proportions of hops, barley-malt, and adrenaline on the central nervous system. We create mobile party events that move on foot through residential, commercial, industrial, and wilderness areas. The world is our saloon!!! The way to get involved is to just show up. You don't need to know or be sponsored by anybody, or be a good runner; some hashers even walk our trails. Hashing is open to all segments of society that don't object to drinking beer and running around not quite sure where you are going....or as many of us say, "If you have half a mind to go hashing, that's all it takes."
