The Miracle won their sixth straight game since the start of the season
Tuesday, knocking off the Yankees, 5-4, at Legends Field in Tampa.
Trailing 2-0 in the third, Fort Myers' Kyle Geiger hit his first homer of the
season. An inning later, Brock Peterson hit another solo homer. Two batters
after that, Scott Whitrock hit a solo shot.
After the Yankees tied the game at 3 in the fifth, Whitrock plated Matt Moses
with an RBI groundout in the sixth. The Miracle added an insurance run in the
seventh on a two-out RBI double by Felix Molina.
Miracle closer Julio De Paula made it interesting in the ninth, when he
walked Hector Made and Eric Verbryke with one out. After Matt Carson's fielder's
choice moved Made to third, DePaula got Erold Andrus to strike out to end the
game.
The Miracle have begun the season 6-0 and trail only the 1994 and '96 Miracle
clubs, who began 9-0, for the best start in franchise history.
Tonight at 7, the Miracle send left-handed starter Errol Simonitsch (1-0,
0.00 ERA) to the hill against Yankees righty Justin Jones (0-1, 5.06).
