The Fort Myers Miracle completed a sweep of Sarasota on Sunday, knocking off
the Reds, 11-5. Sunday's win gave the Minnesota Twins' Florida State League
affiliate a 4-0 record to start the season.
Fort Myers scored seven runs in the sixth inning, capitalizing on Sarasota
pitcher Joe Powers' control problems.
With one out, Powers issued free passes to the Miracle's Ron Perodin and
Denard Span, and the two later scored on Matt Tolbert's double.
Fort Myers loaded the bases when Brock Peterson singled and Felix Molina was
hit by a pitch. Powers then walked in a run, and the Miracle scored again on a
fielding error.
Fort Myers' Jesus Merchan capped the scoring with a bases-clearing double.
The Miracle sent 11 batters to the plate during the rally.
The Miracle head to Tampa at 7 p.m. tonight to begin a three-game set. Nick
Blackburn will pitch in the opener.
