Fw: Cross Training / Injury Prevention Seminar Tomorrow Night in Res   Message List

FYI - below is an email regarding a seminar from Margie Shapiro, a local pro triathlete and a great coach (I work with Margie via the =PR= on line coaching program - and highly recommend it!).

Greetings =PR= Club Members:

Sorry for the mass email. This is my last-minute attempt to boost attendance at a seminar I will be giving tomorrow evening in our Reston PRR store at 7:30 PM. The subject matter is Cross Training / Injury Prevention for Runners and Triathletes.

This time of year is particularly appropriate to look at enhancing your run- or tri- training program because of the gradual decrease in races (and therefore off-season feeling even for pure runners), the weather, the lack of an A race on the immediate horizon, being in "Base Training" in general and therefore having time to focus on some details that may be ignored during race-intensive periods, etc.

During the seminar, I will talk about some common running-related injuries that can be prevented or even rehabbed through cross training in some obvious ways, as well as some that you may consider unconventional. We will have a guest speaker/contributor there as well, Tom Kalka, who owns Custom Fitness Concepts, a fitness company that provides boot camps and other programs at various sites around the NoVA area.

Of course we do not want to lure you into the joys of cross training so much that you leave us in favor of less running and more of other things! On the other hand, wouldn't all of us would be happier if we could maintain better balance and stability and therefore limit our injury potential, not to mention breaking up the monotony of training as we now know it?

If you are interested in coming, please feel free, or tell a friend about it!!

Thanks. Hope to see some of you there!
