The deadline for registering at the Modesto Tourney is 8am.  Registration closes at 8am and those spots not claimed will be given to those on the waiting list.  Players meeting 8:15  The thread with the full details is on disctribution.com.  To our new players, give yourself plenty of time, there will be easily 100 players at this event.

Hello All,

I forgot to pickup an Orange Star Wraith at Woodward on Tuesday morning.  It has my name and number on the bottom.  If any of you picked it up or know someone that did, I would really appreciate getting it back.

Thanks!

PS: Thanks Billy Joe for calling about the Valk!

I am all over the doubles thing.  Keep in mind the alternating shot format for doubles, as well as best and worst shot.  On the worst shot format, the other team gets to pick your lie.

If you intend to play the End of the Trail Classic in Visalia next Labor Day weekend, then item #3 on the PDGA newsletter requires your attention.  All players will be required to pass an online 15 question open rule book exam before being allowed to compete in a National Tour Event.  Visalia just recieved an A Tier status for the 2010 tourney next Sept., so this will be required of you to play.

The exam will be similar to the exam I took to be a PDGA official, only shorter.  You may use your rule to complete the exam.  This is a great way to learn about what is in the rulebook, and how to make calls that involve multiple rulings from different sections.

You must answer 12 of the 15 questions correctly to pass.  You may take the exam multiple times if you need to, in order to pass.  If you can read, then you should be able to pass the exam the first time.  You will have to pass before you can tee off at a National Tour Event.

Dear Gregg,
2009 will go down as one of the most demanding, draining, and difficult years for most of the world.  The economy, jobs, and just the malaise of societal anxiety was felt by most of us, I'm sure.

But for many of us, the antedote to these tough times has been disc golf!  Thank goodness for our friends, the inviting fairways, and the feeling we get when we are just walking on a disc golf course making even half-way decent throws.  Exercise and community seem to provide a potent remedy to most of what  life throws at us.

And while we are beginning to reflect on the past year, 2010 is bearing down upon us.  The PDGA's Chain Reaction membership program is a great way to leverage your love for disc golf into greater growth for the sport.  Our 2010 PDGA Touring Pros are being held to a higher standard, as passing the PDGA Rules Proficiency Exam becomes manditory to compete at any of our National Tour events.

And finally...as we find gratitude for disc golf's gifts, we should also stay humble and serve those less fortunate.  The 2010 edition of disc golf's Ice Bowl is a terrific way to give back to your community and to show that disc golfers continue to care for their fellow women and men.

Thanks and all the best in this season of Thanksgiving!

There has been a steady increase the past few years, but we believe we can push that percentage even higher. The future of disc golf is on the verge of global recognition. What does this mean to you? Disc golf will be seen as a mainstream sport. It's just a matter of time. 2010 National Tour Rules Test
Measure Emphasizes Importance of Fair Play, Professionalism

PDGA Rule Book
Starting in 2010 if you want to compete in a National Tour event you will not only have to be on your game but you will have to demonstrate your knowledge of the Rules of Play as well. At this year's Fall Summit the Board of Directors voted that all NT participants will be required to pass a Rules Proficiency Exam before being allowed to tee off.

The exam will be an online test consisting of 15 questions which are taken from a much larger pool of questions. In order to pass the exam the player must answer 12 (80%) correctly. There will be no limit to the number of times a player can take the online exam. The questions asked will be similar to the certified officials exam which is also an open book format. Players are urged to have a rule book available while taking the exam. A rule book is provided in every new member package and an online copy is available at www.pdga.com/rules.

Stepping up is an individual players choice.  For whatever reason, some players choose not to.  Darrell is right in that he is spending some time in Am Masters, cutting his competitive teeth.  That is OK.  Stepping up is as much about being respectful to the beginning players, as it is about what is happening in your game.  Is it right to step all over the newer players because you don't feel like you can win in another division.

The PDGA has the same growing pains, as they have allowed some former Pro players to drop back to AM because their rating has sunk due to lack of activity in their game.  This is wholly unfair to the newer player who does not have as much experience.  While someone who does not put the time in to improve their physical game, they still have the advantage in the mental side regarding disc and shot selection, and the ability to execute at a  higher level of consistancy.
It is always up to the senior player to step away, and allow the true beginners to have their division.  Believing in yourself is the key to making this decision.  Do not allow your score or placement at an event to be connected to your personal self worth.  It wil literally make you sick.

Last place in the Open division is still ahead of first place in the Am1.  Last place in the AM1 is still ahead of first place in the AM 2.
Beck

I am still pretty new to the game, but I think Beck makes a lot of good points. The AM 2 division is where Spencer will play, because he needs to be pushed and last year no juniors did that. As his game improves he will move up the division and then into the next AM level.
When I started playing in CVS two years ago, I really wasn't competative in AM Masters, but by the end of the season, I was at least in the middle of the pack. Last year, by the end of the season, I was more competative and now, as I keep improving, I hope to be competative enough to move up to open after this season. I could play open now and end up in the bottom part of the group most of the time or play in Am Masters and play toward the top. I think it is a balance between being competative and getting your brains kicked in. It is nice to win a little, but the end game is to improve. You also have to learn to play in tournements with your natural game which is a different experience than the casual round. Darrell

My opinion is that the top half of the AM 2 division in the CVS needs to be playing AM 1, so that the true beginners have a division to compete in.  When AM 2 and AM 1 players are shooting with the top 5 Open players, there is a BIG problem.  If we go to an AM 3 division, then there will be those who will bag back so they can "win".  This is why the CVS has had a history of not having an AM 3 division.  Individual tournament directors are open to having this division if they choose.  It is up to the individual director to make this call, so I suggest you speak directly to the tournament director for that event.  I believe all the numbers are listed.

As a Pro Woman, I move to the pro mens division when there are not enough women for a pro division.  No, I don't feel bad for usually being in the last group in that division. I am a better player because I move up to play against better players.  That is what I suggest to anyone who does not have a division to play in.  Challenge yourself.

A big YES to our local players who have stepped up to the Pro division this year.  It will change the way you see yourself as a player in the long run, you will be a better player.  I am SO proud of you, no matter the outcome of your score.
Beck

I am glad you are not over 40. I don't need anymore competition in my division. The last couple of years there has not been a novice division at Fresno. Guido runs the tourney and is not on this news group. Check with Becky about the flyer. Darrell

Michael CVS tournaments are usually  $30 to $40 for Am divisions and even more money for Pro's. It's too bad there is not a AM III or Novice division. A few of the CVS  tournaments will have Am III division but most do not. I think most of the tournaments fill up quickly except Taft. Michael for you, you can play Am II or Am Masters [over forty]. I have played the last two years in Am II and finished 12th and 8th. I hope for a top five finish this year. Brian Hogg

Was checking the flyer for Modesto. Noticed no Novice or AM3 divisions. Why is this? Also, noticed a $40 entry fee. Is this the case for all the CVS tourneys?

Also, who will be doing the flyer for Fresno?
