Sounds like you did really well in Modesto, Darrell, but I'd expect nothing less from an open player.

RATS! Finished 3rd and was 2 strokes out of first and out of second after taking a 6p on the second to last hole. My best finish ever and first chance to win it all with so little left. I wish I would have checked the cards and played more conservatively on my second shot. Next time I will know. The great thing is that there are lots of chances to keep learning how to make those small improvements that add up over time. Just like everything else in life.

Best shot of the day: From behind a tree, threw an s shot with a Groove about 230' and about 4 feet off the ground through a forest of trees and skipped off the basket to save par.
Worst shot of the day: After watching someone pull over a shot ob, I short armed my drive into a row of trees. Ended up dead behind a tree and instead of just taking a kneel shot to advance it and play for a 4, I got greedy and the disc went too high and ended up in a tree ob!!!

Billy Joe and I are going to the Taft CVS event on 12/5/2009. If
anyone would like to roll with us, there are 3-4 spots open in my
truck. We will leave Fresno at 3:30am.

With my third place money, and Zimmermans ace, we made our money back + about $50.
Can't beat that for a day of fun playing disc golf.

The deadline for registering at the Modesto Tourney is 8am. Registration closes at 8am and those spots not claimed will be given to those on the waiting list. Players meeting 8:15 The thread with the full details is on disctribution.com. To our new players, give yourself plenty of time, there will be easily 100 players at this event.
I forgot to pickup an Orange Star Wraith at Woodward on Tuesday morning. It has my name and number on the bottom. If any of you picked it up or know someone that did, I would really appreciate getting it back.
I am all over the doubles thing. Keep in mind the alternating shot format for doubles, as well as best and worst shot. On the worst shot format, the other team gets to pick your lie.

Thanks, Brian. That was definitely interesting. What I'm concerned about, however, is that I did better on 18 with one disc than I did on the next 9 with all my discs....
Thank you to all who came out to play. Last year when I did this only two players showed up. This year 11 players . I combined Open and Am I then we combined Am II with Novice. Congrats to Billy Joe with a 8 under using a Boss. Congrats to Michael for winning the other division with a smoking -2. Also a congrats to Brad for his 27th Ace on hole 12. That was fun. I think a Sunday Bag Tag round would be nice. What do you players want to see ran out there? I have another idea. A bring your own Doubles partner tournament. One round of best disc, one round of worst disc. Brian

If you intend to play the End of the Trail Classic in Visalia next Labor Day weekend, thenitem #3 on the PDGA newsletter requires your attention. All players will be required to pass an online 15 question open rule book exam before being allowed to compete in a National Tour Event. Visalia just recieved an A Tier status for the 2010 tourney next Sept., so this will be required of you to play.
The exam will be similar to the exam I took to be a PDGA official, only shorter. You may use your rule to complete the exam. This is a great way to learn about what is in the rulebook, and how to make calls that involve multiple rulings from different sections.
You must answer 12 of the 15 questions correctly to pass. You may take the exam multiple times if you need to, in order to pass. If you can read, then you should be able to pass the exam the first time. You will have to pass before you can tee off at a National Tour Event.

2009 will go down as one of the most demanding, draining, and difficult years for most of the world. The economy, jobs, and just the malaise of societal anxiety was felt by most of us, I'm sure.
But for many of us, the antedote to these tough times has been disc golf! Thank goodness for our friends, the inviting fairways, and the feeling we get when we are just walking on a disc golf course making even half-way decent throws. Exercise and community seem to provide a potent remedy to most of what life throws at us.
And while we are beginning to reflect on the past year, 2010 is bearing down upon us. The PDGA's Chain Reaction membership program is a great way to leverage your love for disc golf into greater growth for the sport. Our 2010 PDGA Touring Pros are being held to a higher standard, as passing the PDGA Rules Proficiency Exam becomes manditory to compete at any of our National Tour events.
And finally...as we find gratitude for disc golf's gifts, we should also stay humble and serve those less fortunate. The 2010 edition of disc golf's Ice Bowl is a terrific way to give back to your community and to show that disc golfers continue to care for their fellow women and men.
Thanks and all the best in this season of Thanksgiving!
PDGA Membership: A Chain Reaction Help Grow the Sport AND Your Disc Golf Assets
Starting Monday, November 16th, we are offering a "Refer-a-Friend" program to jump start our membership drive for 2010. We want to see the numbers pop! There has been a steady increase the past few years, but we believe we can push that percentage even higher. The future of disc golf is on the verge of global recognition. What does this mean to you? Disc golf will be seen as a mainstream sport. It's just a matter of time. People of all ages are getting hooked on the game we have all grown to love. Now is our chance to
be noticed and the future is in our hands!
We encourage you to show your love of the game by promoting the sport and the PDGA every chance you can.
2010 National Tour Rules Test Measure Emphasizes Importance of Fair Play, Professionalism
Starting in 2010 if you want to compete in a National Tour event you will not only have to be on your game but you will have to demonstrate your knowledge of the Rules of Play as well. At this year's Fall Summit the Board of Directors voted that all NT participants will be required to pass a Rules Proficiency Exam before being allowed to tee off.
The exam will be an online test consisting of 15 questions which are taken from a much larger pool of questions. In order to pass the exam the player must answer 12 (80%) correctly. There will be no limit to the number of times a player can take the online exam. The questions asked will be similar to the certified officials exam which is also an open book format. Players are urged to have a rule book available while taking the exam. A rule book is provided in every new member package and an online copy is available at www.pdga.com/rules.
2010 Ice Bowl Info
Disc Golf's Special Way to Give Back
We're now gearing up for Ice Bowl, which will be played a course near you during January and February. The first Ice Bowl was held nearly a quarter of century ago as a day to get people out to play some disc golf in mid-winter. Since then, it's grown to include nearly 200 events that are dedicated to raising money to combat hunger and other charitable causes, while having fun and showing that disc golfers care about their communities.
This is a very exciting time for our sport. We are so glad that you're here with us to enjoy it. Please know that we stand ready to serve our members, and we welcome any feedback or questions you might have.
The 2009 PDGA World Championships were historic in so many ways: the biggest field ever, many first-time champions, only the 2nd sudden death playoff in men's open history, and a brother and sister open champion combo! Wow!
It's all on the 2009 PDGA World Champ's DVD! The DVD is being duplicated now and promises to have you laughing, cheering, holding your breath, and just enjoying the video that celebrates how great disc golf could be.
Our first run is a limited one, so don't miss out. Reserve your own personal copy now and have all your friends over to watch this most entertaining production.
