Hello,
After looking at the W-League website, it occurred to me that dominant state
in the league is Virginia since the state is represented by four women's teams.
For that matter the state can also boast four PDL clubs, one USL-1 club, one
USL-2 club, and the clubs in the Super-Y League. It seems only natural that
there should be some sort of a Virginia State cup competition (something similar
to the Carolina Challenge Cup) for professional teams in the state. This would
be a great opportunity to showcase women's soccer and promote the USL and club
brands.
Maybe such a tournament could be held in conjunction with current tournaments
such as the MCSA Fall Classic, St Patrick's Day Tournament, PWSI Icebreaker
Soccer Tournament, Colonial Cup, or Sun Cup. The Colonial Cup makes the most
sense due to it being an early summer tournament but Sun Cup is late summer
during the USL play-offs. With the number of men's teams there is also the
opportunity to include them as well.
Thank you for your consideration. I really hope that this is an idea that
makes sense.
Yours in Soccer.
