Washington Freedom FC ... Women's Soccer Is Back in the DC Area!
Freedom will ring again when the W-League resumes play in May of 2007.
On Thursday, December 7, 2006 from the Tampa Florida headquarters of
the United Soccer Leagues it was announced that the Washington Freedom
Soccer Club, which evolved from the Women's United Soccer Association
(WUSA) Washington Freedom, has acquired a W-League franchise and will
begin play in 2007.
This is a Washington Freedom Supporters list - This e-mail list is
used to promote the Washington Freedom. The goal is to have a strong
group of supporters like the Crusaders (the proud supporters of the
Washington Freedom professional soccer club). When we last encountered
the Freedom in 2003 they were hoisting the Founders Cup at the end of
a successful WUSA season. That team featured Abby Wambach, Mia Hamm,
Siri Mullinix, Jen Grubb, Steffi Jones, Pu Wei, and Bai Jie. Who will
be the new stars on the rise? Will the Freedom be able to win another
championship in 2007 against the W-League's defending champion
Whitecaps and the other W-League Clubs?
As always the goals will be high for this club. The Freedom was a
first class organization when as part of the WUSA and should continue
that tradition in the W-League. The Freedom intends to rejoin a
professional league when it returns; however, the Freedom plans on
maintaining their W-League team to train its top amateur players.
The schedule is expected to be released by early January and the
Freedom will play all of its home games at the Maryland SoccerPlex in
Germantown. The Washington metro area has two teams in the current top
division of women's soccer, let us get out there and support them!
