[Registration info below]

I have received confirmation from USA Rugby that we will be hosting a
coaching clinic on Saturday/Sunday January 27-28, 2007. The clinic will be
at Gonzaga HS in Washington, DC. It will run from about 9-4 each day.
There are two workshops/clinics. Each workshop requires both Saturday and
Sunday attendance, so you will not be able to take part in both. (As to
missing either the first or second day, that's an issue you'll have to take
up with USA Rugby.) You may choose either the "Introduction to Rugby"
workshop or the "Developing Rugby Skills" workshop. Both of these workshops
include classroom and field time. I know many of you need
coachingcertification, so please take this opportunity to get it. At
the conclusion
of each day's session, there will be a social gathering that includes the
clinic participants and instuctors (details TBD).

The clinic is open to coaches for any club, but the timing is ideal for high
school and youth coaches.

The following is an excerpt from this web link which you should read in its
entirely. You can get to this page by going to www.usarugby.org, -->
Playing the Game (top menu bar), --> Coaches, --> Coach Development Program
(CDP).

*Introducing Rugby* - This course is designed for the coach that spends most
of his time introducing the game to new players. It is ideal for high school
head coaches and college and club assistant coaches. The focus on the course
is being able to implement the fundamentals of the game to players that have
little or no experience. The certification requirements include attendance
at a workshop and completed competency assesment, Foundations of
CoachingRugby modules, NCSS PREPARE Sports Safety module and the
Introducing Rugby
modules.

*Developing Skills* - This certification is designed for the coach that is
focused on working with players with experience and wants to get their
players to play at a higher level. The course work is ideal for head coaches
and those that are involved in club and all-star play. There is an emphasis
on practice planning, developing game sense and skill development. The
certification requirements include attendance at a workshop and completed
competency assesment, Foundations of Coaching Rugby modules, NCSS PREPARE
Sports Safety module and the Developing Skills modules.

Remember, there are online modules that you should complete prior to the
workshop. You must pay for these online modules, and you must pay for the
workshop. Details about costs are at the link above. Assuming we meet
certain attendance criteria (which I am confident we can meet), you will
receive a refund of about $20.

Thanks, and hope to see you all at the coaching workshops.

UPDATE ON REGISTRATION

There is now a registration link for the January 27-28, 2007 coaching clinic.
You must have a coach's portal username and password. There is a
registration link on the front page of the coach's portal.

To get to the coach's portal, go to www.usarugby.org, click on "Playing the
Game" on the uppermost horizontal menu bar, then click on " Coaches" on the
first drop down menu, then "Coach's Portal" on the next drop down menu.

Remember, you must register with USA Rugby to take this course. It is being
sponsored by the Potomac Rugby Union, but it is a USA-managed clinic. There
are two online modules that you should complete before you come to the
clinic. Set aside a few hours to work through those modules. They are well
worth your time, and will make the clinic even more worthwhile.

If you are having any problems registering, or have any questions, please
contact me for assistance.
