Here are the results of my poll regarding having a F.A.S.T.
Club "goal" Ironman for 2009. The idea is F.A.S.T. members would
have plenty of training partners and a lot of camaraderie when
training for the same event. Plus possibly people to share travel
expenses with.
A few people have made their decision and know exactly which IM they
are going to try to get into and a few people are willing to select
an IM amongst a few top choices.
The long and the short of it is there is an equal number interested
in Canada and Lake Placid with Wisconsin being the next choice. The
major uncertainty is getting into Canada. Jaret Johnson is going to
drive to Lake Placid to register on-site to get his slot at LP.
IM Canada had quite a few people interested but only 1 or 2 can get
in for sure having community slots. Apparently, there is no on-line
registration for Canada because it is so popular. To show-up on-site
is a challenge because it requires a flight to the closest city and
then a 2-3 hour drive. Jon Logan tells me there is a lottery for
Canada and he and Sandy are going to put their names in. Also,
getting in by community slot, although expensive, might be more
affordable than showing up on-site.
We had two comments of "anything but Louisville" because of concern
for the heat. And we had one comment of "anything driving distance"
because it is a bit of a hassle to fly a bike.
The following are the results:
Wisconsin
Jody Wolak (fairly certain)
Jackie Roehl (fairly certain)
Jane Sanders (maybe)
CDA
Jim Austin (already registered)
Lake Placid
Darrin Bartlett (fairly certain)
Jaret Johnson (fairly certain)
Devon Kennedy (I heard through the grapevine.)
Jane Sanders (maybe)
Canada
Dave Kurt (maybe, but his 1st choice)
Adrienne O'Day (maybe)
Jon Logan (if can get in by lottery)
Sandy Logan (if can get in by lottery)
Louisville
Adrienne O'Day (maybe)
Florida
Jane Sanders (maybe)
Basically, I don't think I can declare one IM the definite winner for
2009. But you can review the results and make a decision that is
best for you.
Enjoy!
