This is a great story!!! PLEASE READ :)
Two Choices
What would you do?....you make the choice. Don't look
for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?
At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves
learning-disabled children, the father of one of the
students delivered a speech that would never be
forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the
school and its dedicated staff, he offered a
question: "When not interfered with by outside
influences, everything nature does is done with
perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as
other children do. He cannot understand things as
other children do. Where is the natural order of
things in my son?"
The audience was stilled by the query.
The father continued. "I believe that when a child
like Shay, physically and mentally handicapped comes
into the world, an opportunity to realize true human
nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other
people treat that child."
Then he told the following story:
Shay and his father had walked past a park where some
boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, "Do
you think they'll let me play?" Shay's father knew
that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood
that if his son were allowed to play, it would give
him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his
handicaps.
Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field
and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play.
The boy looked around for guidance and said, "We're
losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth
inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try
to put him in to bat in the ninth inning."
Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a
broad smile, put on a team shirt. His Father watched
with a small tear in his eye and warmth in his heart.
The boys saw the father's joy at his son being accepted. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's
team scored a few runs but was still behind by three.
In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove
and played in the right field. Even though no hits
came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in
the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear
as his father waved to him from the stands. In the
bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again.
Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the
potential winning run was on base and Shay was
scheduled to be next at bat.
At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away
their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was
given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but
impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold
the bat properly, much less connect with the ball. However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting
winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved
in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay
could at least make contact. The first pitch came and
Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again
took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly
towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the
ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the
pitcher.
The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the
soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball
to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and
that would have been the end of the game.
Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the
first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates.
Everyone from the stands and both teams started
yelling, "Shay, run to first! Run to first!" Never in
his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to
first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed
and startled.
Everyone yelled, "Run to second, run to second!"
Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards
second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the
base. By the time Shay rounded towards second base,
the right fielder had the ball ... the smallest guy
on their team who now had his first chance to be the
hero for his team. He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the
pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw
the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head.
Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.
All were screaming, "Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way
Shay"
Shay reached third base because the opposing
shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the
direction of third base, and shouted, "Run to third!
Shay, run to third!"
As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and
the spectators, were on their feet screaming, "Shay,
run home! Run home!" Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand
slam and won the game for his team.
"That day", said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, "the boys from both teams
helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into
this world".
Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that
winter, having never forgotten being the hero and
making his father so happy, and coming home and seeing
his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the
day!
AND NO W A LITTLE FOOTNOTE TO THIS STORY: We all send
thousands of jokes through the e-mail without a
second thought, but when it comes to sending messages
about life choices, people hesitate. The crude,
vulgar, and often obscene pass freely through
cyberspace, but public discussion about decency is too
often suppressed in our schools and workplaces.
If you're thinking about forwarding this message,
chances are that you're probably sorting out the people in your address book who aren't the
"appropriate" ones to receive this type of message.
Well, the person who sent you this believes that we all can make a difference. We all have thousands of
opportunities every single day to help realize the
"natural order of things." So many seemingly trivial
interactions between two people present us with a
choice: Do we pass along a little spark of love and
humanity or do we pass up those opportunities and
leave the world a little bit colder in the process?
A wise man once said every society is judged by how it
treats it's least fortunate amongst them.

Hi there. We will already be at the Rodeo
Thursday evening. Is there anyway you guys can get a ride to the arena or meet
us somewhere closer to reliant park where we can pick you up Thursday? We
could use your help decorating. Bring sleeping bags, pillows, toiletries etc…
We will be staying in the area through Saturday afternoon. Sheri

Hi! I'm sorry I couldn't be out there today, I am working on my science
fair project. I will also not be there next week. I am able to go to the Rodeo
and was wondering what your plans were. Jaclyn, Roxanne and maybe Lauren would
also like to go if it is ok with you. I don't know how much room you have or
how many people you want to come. I can get a ride to your barn on Thursday
around 4:30ish or early Friday morning. If the other people go they can get the
same rides I am getting. Just e-mail me back please to tell me who you want to
come and when you want us there. Thank you so much!
okay so my dad said if I bring up my grade then I could go, well I've
brought proof home and I've yet to get my dad's answer so if all goes
well then I will be there this weekend!
P.S. Thanks Sandra for sending the NHS thing I wasn't sure if I'd be
able to get on or not, your a life saver!
alright, i missed yall this sat because Liora (my now 3 mo old puppy) went to the vet for her 3 month shots and a check up to possibly determine her fate, and wouldn't ya know it - she's perfectly healthy!! well, besides the early case of tapeworms! no parvo, distemper, nothing! she's now almost double the size she was when i adopted her and weighs in at 14.5 lbs! unfortunately, possibly because of the stress of finals and
the fear that my pup was going to die...I am now sick! well, just thought id give yall an update. oh yeah, Liora is now perfectly potty trained, knows sit, stay (not for long distances yet, down, no, come (well, more like "Liooorah! kiss, kiss, kiss!"), and we are learning crawl (almost down!). we discovered that she is a special pup, allergic to penicillin and penicillin dirivitives, she is a 'bleeder' and she gets shot cysts. luv kryss!

Don't knowwhether
youheard about this
but Denzel Washingtonand
his family visited
the troops atBrookArmyMedicalCenter,in
San Antonio,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This
is where soldiers who have been evacuated from
Germany come to be hospitalized in the United
States, especially burn victims. There are
some
buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher
House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can
stay,
for little or no charge, while their soldier
is staying
in the Hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these
houses
on base, but as you can imagine, they are
almost filled
most of the time.
While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC,
they gave
him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He
asked how
much one of them would cost to build. He
took his check
book out and wrote a check for the full amount right
there
on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear
this story and want to get the word out to the
American
public, because it warmed their hearts to hear
it.
The question I have is why does:
Alec Baldwin,
Madonna,
Sean Penn and
other Hollywood

make front page news with their anti-everything
America trash and Denzel Washington's Patriotism
doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section

i would love to meet all the volunteers, the party idea sounds great!!
well, my parents took Liora (my pup) to the vet this morning to check
for parvo. as it turns out, shez had her first parvo shot already and
she tested negative for parvo, but the vet said to still be wary, just
in case it is still in the early stages and doesnt show up yet. we will
know for sure in 7-10 days if we're free and clear. shez on a special
canned food for her sensitive tummy and icky bowel movements and she
cant get enough of it!! she got 2 shots: 1 to help her tummy, and i
will have to check on the other, in addition to an antibiotic pill to
prevent any kind of infection.ok, so...
*vet visit
*2 shots
*antibiotic
*crate of canned food
and it was all free!!!!! the HSPCA has to let us go free...:)

Hey guys. Wanted to let you know I’m thinking of

20 volunteers and would like you all to meet. If anyone would like to help
with the planning let me know within the next week. Also, we will be open for
session Saturday Nov. 25. We are only closing next Thursday and Friday for
Thanksgiving. Sheri
shez doin better (we are solid...if you catch my drift) drinkin a ton
and eatin a bit...full of puppy energy! she gets an 8-in-1 shot on sat
from the vet which covers everything. we were worried about parvo, too.
my dadz coworker's son's dog got parvo...
Krystalynn, has the puppy had its Parvo
shots. It is a very common puppy virus that causes severe malnutrition and “tummy”
problems. Always life threatening. Make sure the puppy has had all shots and
been cleared of this disease. So glad you brought her home. I look forward to
the pictures on Sat. Sheri

what i cant stand (besides bad grammar and hypocrites) is cowards. the
lady i was going to get Sonny from is afraid of dogs when they growl
(why foster??) so she has been too scared to have a meeting with the
dogs (ours and Sonny) until today, sunday. well, we called @ 9:00 am
sharp and she promptly told us she wouldn't be able to meet with us
until the middle of next week at the earliest because she "threw her
back out". after having met her twice, i know this is false and it
upset me (to the point of tears) because it finally hit me - she wasnt
gonna let me have Sonny. so my parents took me to the HSPCA and I FOUND
A REALLY CUTE PUPPY!!! she is 10 weeks old, her eyes look like mine
(grayish) and her base color is white with silver/gray and black and
brown marks all over. SHE IS SOOO SWEET!!! of course, we'll have to see

still...OMG!! she is *supposedly* a blue heeler/hound mix...i'll be

Wow, what an interesting looking
dog! I can't get over those eyes!
It's been forever since I've been out to
the barn, but figured I'd jump in and say hi to everyone. I have a new
dog now, I was on my way home from the track late one night, and stopped at a
gas station, and there was this poor emaciated black dog. I tried to talk
someone else into taking him home, but nobody would, so long story short, he's
sleeping on the bed as I'm typing this. I don't know where the small
strays are, Diesel (what else do you call a dog from the gas
station?) is already 75 lbs, and looks like he's going to get a bit
bigger! He's a beautiful black lab, and it's hard to believe it's the
same dog I found 2 1/2 months ago. He was all skin and bones, had a
broken lower jaw that was horribly infected, his eyes were infected shut, and
he had a big gash on his head. He must have fallen out of someone's
truck. Anyway, he's doing great, and was the 'last straw' that finally
made me decide to buy a house instead of my condo.
The house closing is Thanksgiving week,
and I'm really excited about it. It's over in the Pasadena/Deer Park
area, and it's a pretty good sized house on 1/3 acre, with room in the garages
for 4 cars. Perfect, because I'm still out racing my 70... There's a race
in Florida
I'm going to try to make in a few weeks, so I've been staying busy with that.
I hope everything is going well out at
the barn! I need to stop by and see how everyone's doing! I miss you guys
a lot, and think of you often :)
