On Saturday night, the team traded a conditional draft
pick to Edmonton for defenseman Alexei Semenov.

"He's a big player who has good skating skill that we
think will add depth," general manager Mike Keenan
said of Semenov. "There's been a hole since Mezei went
down. We'll see how this develops. I've been looking
for defensive help since Mezei went down, and we added
a player without losing one."

Semenov, a big defenseman at 6-6 and 235 pounds,
scored a goal with an assist in 11 games with the
Oilers this season. Semenov will make $760,000 this
season, about $250,000 less than Mezei -- and the same
as the underperforming Karpovstev.
