RE: [fleetfeetrunnersclub] Shoe Donations

Dear Runners Club Member,

Please allow me to clarify.  I sent the e-mail below to the St. Louis Ultrarunning Group (SLUGS) in response to an e-mail thread about donating running shoes.  I’m glad that you are now aware of shoe donation opportunities both at the store and at the L&C race.

More importantly, however, I would like to thank the many Runners Club members who will be volunteering their time at the Lewis & Clark marathon on September 14th.  Runners Club members will be serving as course marshals, driving supply trucks starting at 3am, managing the finish line, serving food and drink, retrieving race bags, supervising the shuttle system, helping injured runners etc.  We could not put on this exciting event in St. Charles without your gracious assistance.  We also appreciate the support of Runners Club members who will be running or walking next Sunday and wish you an enjoyable race!

Good morning.  Following is a message from Debby Spetnagel that I have been asked to post about where you can donate new and used running shoes:

Chris Heupel

President

FLEET FEET Runner’s Club

FLEET FEET Sports donates new and worn shoes to Soles4Souls.  Donations boxes are located at each of stores.  This charity provides shoes to children and families in dire need in the United States and around the world. The website is www.soles4souls.org.

We are also collecting shoes at the start line of the Lewis & Clark marathon.  The Missouri National Guard wants to send a truckload of shoes to Afghanistan as part of their “Farmers helping Farmers” program to help rebuild the agriculture in the war-torn economy.  More information may be found on the Lewis & Clark website http://www.fleetfeetstl.com/lewisandclarkmarathon/race_info.

We are in high gear for Lewis & Clark planning.  David and I offer heartfelt thanks to all SLUGS who will be assisting David and Victoria White with the SLUG aid station at mile 6.41.  We’re expecting over 5500 participants this year so it should be an exciting morning on September 14th.  Good luck to those who may be running!

Thank you for your support!

Debby Spetnagel, Owner
